University of Miami men’s basketball head coach Jai Lucas added another piece to his inaugural roster with the addition of Noam Dovrat, it was announced Tuesday.

“We are excited to bring Noam to our program as he brings a wealth of playing experience in Israel and in international play,” Lucas said. “He is someone that has the ability to score and facilitate the offense while also using his size and physicality to play and guard multiple positions.”

Dovrat, a 6-foot-5 guard, spent last season playing in the Israeli Winner Legue for Maccabi Urban Ramat Gan and Hapoel Jerusalem where he averaged 5.0 points, 2.5 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game.

During his time with Hapoel Jerusalem, Dovrat helped the team win Israeli Cup in 2023 and 2024 as well as the 2024 League Cup.

The 2020 Israeli Basketball Premier League Discovery of the Year, Dovrat made an impact on the international stage as he played for the Israeli U16 and U18 national teams.

He was named MVP in the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championship Division B after averaging 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals.

Prior to his time at Hapoel Jerusalem, Dovrat began his career at Maccabi Rishon LeZion where he played from 2019-2021.

How many years of eligibility? Dude has a ton of experience already.

Not sure what to make of this guy. Anyone seen or have a good scouting report on him?
Let's be honest, unless he had 4 or 5 stars below his name, I doubt you'd be sure of what to make of a prospect, and even then, I doubt it would be very insightful.

Exactly! If he's Doron Sheffer or Nadav Henefeld (two ex-UConn stars from Israel) quality, he could be an instant starter. Or, he could be something far less. He's what? 23 yrs old with a lot of international experience.

Hey guys, I've been following Noam for a while. I reached out to Trinton a few weeks ago to give him the heads up on him coming to Coral Gables.

Noam was getting some NBA Draft Buzz when he was younger, and has been hampered by injuries the past few years which has really impacted his play.

He's starting to look healthy again and hopefully he can return to form. When he was playing in the U18 games, he was an allstar but hasn't been able to gain that form back post-injury.

He can play the 1 and the 2, and hopefully will be a solid rotational piece, needs to improve his consistency shooting the 3 ball.

He will have 2 years of eligibility in college.

Not comparing him to Luka but there’s some of the same qualities to his skill set. Like Luka he plays at his own pace , doesn’t get sped up. Uses his body on offense to feel defenders especially on the drive , creates contact. He’ll definitely be able to handle the physicality with his body type. Shoots pretty well off the dribble and spotting up. I like the addition. He brings something different to the team.

It'll be interesting to see Coach Lucas's rotation going into the OOC games, and then how that gets refined to be ready to go with the ACC schedule. He's got a lot of evaluating to do.

If he weren't already 23, I'd say he might he be a Redshirt candidate this coming season while acclimating to a different country, academic classes, and still rounding into shape from his injuries.

What were the injuries?

Best guess is we start the year with a rotation that looks like this:

Donaldson/Dante Allen
Washington/Dovrat
Henderson/Marcus Allen
Reneau/Malovec
Udeh/Altuntas

In a perfect world/once they adjust to the college, we stagger Reneau and Udeh and shift Malovec up to play small ball 4. Then have Dovrat as the starting 2 and Washington in the 6th man role. Much more positional versatility and floor spacing with a group like that.

Based off some videos I've seen of him, we may have found our shooter. He looks like a combo guard that can play on the ball or on the wing. He seems adept in the pick & roll game who won't hesitate to bury defenders who go under on the P&R screens. Need him to be a shot-maker, not a shot-taker though. He's got a ton of experience at 23 years old. I anticipate he'll crack the rotation to play good minutes. Can't imagine him coming to America. to sit the pine.
