Bishop Gorman Star Tight End Elija Lofton Commits to Miami Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have secured the commitment of one of the most versatile high school football prospects in the country, tight end Elija Lofton. The Las Vegas native announced his commitment to the University of Miami on a live stream via 247Sports, choosing the Canes over other finalists including Arizona State, Texas, Hawaii, and Washington.

Lofton, a dynamic player from Bishop Gorman High School, is the #13 ranked tight end in the nation and the #242 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. He shares an alma mater with former Miami tight end and current Houston Texans' player, Brevin Jordan.

What sets Lofton apart is his multifaceted skill set. The Canes coaches regard him as one of the best "football players" in the country. His ability to line up as a wide receiver, running back, or tight end, coupled with his potential to play as a linebacker, makes Lofton a rare talent.

Lofton showcased his scoring prowess last December in a game against Chaminade-Madonna, where he scored a staggering five touchdowns. It is this unique versatility and scoring ability that has led the Miami coaching staff to believe that Lofton could be a game-changing recruit for the Hurricanes. No he wouldn't. Size and speed limitations was always going to hold his rankings down. If was 6'3 or taller he'd be a really high 4 star at best(top 50ish player).

Most important thing is we're getting a really great player.

Closest defender was his own receiver who almost hit him on the cross lol. Kid has been incredible hands, so smooth catching the ball.

I don’t know about the 3 star 4 star 5 star popularity contest.

This dude is a 5 star football player. He will play early, play well, and play in the NFL. Not sure how many HS seniors you can say that about. Total stud football player.

People compare him to Brevin but I think he’s a lot better. Our TE room gonna be ridiculous the next few years.

Brevin is in the NFL so let's slow down a little. Brevin is a legit 6'3" 245lbs TE. Elijah is shorter, not as big and slower. Yes, Elijah has upside and enjoy his HS game. He probably translates better as HBack at the next level.

Much like Reuben Bain, the only reason this kid isn’t pushing 5 stars is because of his height. He’s basically a 6’1” TE in a day where tight ends are 6’4” and up. I’m curious how his game translates to the next level. He’s a good athlete and he can catch the ball really well but you’re not going to get that size mismatch with a safety down the seams that most teams use their tight end for. I’m scared we’re just going to turn him into some kind of fullback.
