Al Blades, Jr. commits to Miami

Miami officially welcomed a key member to the Storm 18 class on Sunday afternoon as Al Blades, Jr. announced his decision to become a Hurricane on Father's Day.

Blades, a four-star defensive back prospect from St. Thomas Aquinas HS, was long rumored to be committing to Miami today as an ode to his late father, Al Blades, who played at The U as well as his uncles Bennie and Brian.

He announced his decision with this post on Twitter:

Blades joins a loaded Canes DB class of safeties Josh Jobe and Gurvan Hall, and cornerbacks D.J. Ivey and Gilbert Frierson. Blades is being recruited to play corner at Miami. He is the 18th commitment in UM's 2nd-ranked class on 247sports.com.

Straight up baller 6-0 and 175 pounds 4.5 forty pro measurable just have to get stronger with tackling added strength and locating the ball in coverage but that will come with college coaching already a beast in man coverage big time playa

Being a beast in coverage is what it's all about. You cannot teach the instincts he apparently has. Physical strength, and technique will come with S&C, and good coaching.

You want to know something that blows my mind? I went over to the UT boards to see what their reaction was after the positive comments Blades said towards UT yesterday, come to find out that UT fans are higher on Blades than we are. Even after he committed some called him the number 1 CB in the country along with Surtain. Just blows my mind other fan bases are higher on a Blades than we are. That being said I know we realize this is a massive pickup.

Blades is the best cb prospect in the country, not named Tyson Campbell. If rumph closes on Campbell, we would have our top 6 dbs locked down. Honestly, I'd be just fine with a 6 man class of Campbell, blades, Ivey, hall, jobe, and frierson. Use that 7th ship on a 3rd de like chatfield if that helps to secure Campbell and silvera.
