The reason is Mark Emmert who facilitated the rise of Nick Saban, Alabama, OSU, and the SEC. He envisioned maximizing the cache and performance of the schools with the largest fan bases. His vision for CFB was not the NFL, he wanted the MLB. With 6 to 7 marquee teams taking and concentrating all the talent and building rabid massive fan bases that alone could carry the finances of the sport. He was a huge prick and he, in concert with the good Ole boys of the ACC/SEC and Donna Shalala, is the primary reason Miami got buried in mediocrity even when we managed to piece together a squad that could compete like in 2012 or the mid to late 2010s.

This is in the context of a discussion where it is being implied that the SEC rose to prominence because they were able to keep their players home because of proximity and not money, but now that NIL exists other teams are able to poach the talent. The audacity of these MFers to not acknowledge that the exodus of SoFla talent was initiated and maintained by illicit payments made by schools who were selectively protected by the NCAA whilr they ruled over us with an Iron Fist is infuriating.

We definitely paid but even then it paled in comparison to the big Southern and Texas schools. And in Butch's run it was buttoned down. Those kids were dead broke.

I got hammered with Dennis Eriksen once at the Spokane airport during a flight delay. He told me Jimmy had it easy — lots of Cadillacs on campus — but the SEC bagmen stepped up their game when Dennis was hired lol.

It was a win-win for billionaires and the schools that had them.

$20,000 became $200,000, and sometimes 2 million. The new deepest pocket, post the Alston ruling, was not the car dealership/fast food restaurant millionaire. It is the billionaire class; the Mas Brothers and the Soffer family, Mark Cuban, Cody____ at TT, Larry Ellison at Michigan. And a bunch at Notre Dame who never seem to be discussed publicly.

So the rumor was true. For 2 decades recruits didn’t come despite wanting to, because the accepted or legal financial rules were not in favor of our deep pockets. Now that the rules have changed, the rumor has become the reality. That s*it we heard for years was true.

So I ask my Canes brothers and sisters, am I so ecstatic at the current situation that I am forgiving of all the NCAA BULLS*IT that worked against Miami for 20 years??? Our runs of greatness could have been longer and more frequent with just one thing that we now have; an Open Market. That was the change of the Alston ruling. The market for college athletes value is now open, just like every other person in the country. And the playing field is level.

What people don’t realize is the fact that Miami does pay but doesn’t pay the most for kids like morons around the country think we do. This has been stated so many times by recruits parents coaches etc. Money factors in but Mario doesn’t get the credit he deserves for how he’s built this program and we went to the title game.

The best recruiter in CFB also has the necessary resources. It’s a marriage made in heaven for us.
 
Let’s not give the money too much credit it’s more Mario’s word. When you hear recruits say “he said this would happen and it did” and they talk about Mario being straight up no bs. Truth attracts trust and dogs that trust their leader they would die for them.
