Austin Swartz Chooses Miami Hurricanes, becomes first commit of '24 class
4-star shooting guard Austin Swartz committed to the program on Tuesday afternoon. The highly sought-after recruit chose Miami over a plethora of esteemed programs, including UCONN, Georgia, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Florida State, and Notre Dame.
Swartz hails from Cannon School in Concord, North Carolina, and his skills on the court have garnered him a lot of attention from college coaches. He is ranked as the #44 player in the country by 247Sports and is also listed as the #7 shooting guard and the #5 player in his home state. This adds another feather in the cap of the Miami Hurricanes who have been actively looking to add a guard for next year's class.A Closer Look at Swartz’s Game
Adam Finklestein of 247Sports offers an in-depth analysis of Swartz’s style of play. “Swartz is a skilled, volume shooter and scorer,” Finklestein noted. “He makes tough shots at multiple levels and has a knack for creating space to shoot off the dribble with both step-backs and pull-ups off his back foot.”However, Finklestein also highlighted some areas where Swartz could improve. “The key for him though is efficiency. Although he can make tough shots, he has a tendency to settle for contested ones,” he added. Swartz's assist-to-turnover ratio in the EYBL regular season was a flat 1.7 per game, but Finklestein notes that the young guard shows "flashes of being a talented passer when he's not hunting his individual offense.”
Physically, Swartz has a lot going for him. Finklestein explains, “He has a naturally strong build with good perimeter size. He can get above the rim in the open floor, but often has to rely on being a crafty lay-up maker within the half-court.” On the defensive end, Swartz possesses attributes that should make him an asset for Miami, although Finklestein believes he "needs to have a more consistent approach.”
