For 2019 4-star OT Danielson Ike, recruiting has moved into full gear. After picking up a handful of offers based on his junior year film in the spring, the Rockhurst (MO) star has ramped up his visit schedule lately. Ike’s hit a couple schools in the past couple months and plans to get a few more in before the recruiting dead period begins in two weeks. He’ll be at Nebraska this weekend, followed by a visit to Ann Arbor shortly after.
“Yes, I’ve been doing some visits lately,” Ike said. “I went to Missouri, Iowa State, and Louisville and I’m going to Nebraska and Michigan coming up. I’m going to get some visits in because recruiting shuts down for like two weeks soon.”
While Ike was a prospect that was high on UM’s board in the past, he says contact has fallen off since his main recruiter, coach Craig Kuligowski, departed to work in Tuscaloosa for Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide.
“It’s been awhile since I’ve heard from them,” Ike said on the Canes. “I was in touch with coach Kul there, he was keeping an eye on me when he was at Miami, but he left for Bama.”
However, Kuligowski has remained in touch with Ike since he landed at Alabama and played a big role in helping him receive an offer from the defending National Champs last month. Ike has plenty of interest in Bama and plans a visit there after the dead period.
“He’s actually been talking to me since he’s been at Bama and got me an offer,” Ike said on Kuligowski. “He’s my main recruiter and has come to visit me at school. So, when recruiting comes back on, I’ll be going to visit Alabama.”
Even so, the 6’6” 340 pounder would be receptive to interest from the Canes if he were to start hearing from them again.
“Yes, of course,” Ike said on if he’d like to hear from UM again. “A lot of tradition there.”
With his Rockhurst High team, Ike felt he had a solid season in his junior campaign, but has spent the off-season working hard to take his game to the next level and leave everything on the field in his final year of high school ball.
“We went 8-4 last year, so we did okay, but there’s still room to improve,” said Ike on his junior season. “For senior year, I’m going to give it my best. It’s my last season on the field and I want to win it all with my teammates. I know I have a big job to do.”
As for a decision, don’t expect one soon from Ike: he’s not going to rush things and will choose a school after his senior season.
“I’m going to wait until the end of my senior year,” Ike said. “I’m going to take the process slow”
When it comes time to announce a commitment, Ike knows exactly what he’s looking for in his school of choice. Early playing time and a good connection with the program’s staff will be big factors in his ultimate decision.
“I don’t want to redshirt as a freshman, I want to go somewhere I can play right away,” Ike said. “And I want good communication with the coaches.”
