Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes are right back at it on the trail.

2027 four-star cornerback Chase Johnson has included Miami in his latest group of top schools. The Canes are going head-to-head with Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Auburn, half SEC schools, half in-state teams. Just another day recruiting defensive backs in the South.

Johnson comes out of Emanuel County High School in Swainsboro, Georgia. 247Sports slots him as the No. 20 cornerback in the country and the No. 19 player in the state of Georgia. He’s listed at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, and yeah, he will need to get bigger, but he still has a couple more years to grow.

Miami jumped in early, offering Johnson on April 3, 2025, and that relationship has already moved past the offer stage. Johnson made it down to South Florida this past season for Miami vs. Notre Dame.

His offer list includes; Miami, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan, Vanderbilt, and a long list of others are all swinging. Nobody’s backing off here, but Miami has firmly planted itself in the race.

As for the bigger picture, Miami’s 2026 class currently has four commitments, with two on the offensive side of the ball.
