2027 WR Osani Gayles talks overall recruitment process and growing relationship with UM
Following a move from California to IMG Academy in Florida, the Miami Hurricanes have worked hard to get involved in the recruitment of WR Osani Gayles. A top-10 receiver in the 2027 class, Gayles made the trip down South for Miami’s “Spring Splash” this past weekend, leaving impressed with his growing relationship with the Hurricane coaching staff. Miami doesn’t appear to be in the lead for the four-star wideout, but appears very alive as it climbs up the ranks in his recruitment. Here’s everything Gayles had to say to me following his visit.
On what stood out during his visit:
“I can definitely tell how close the team is, just like a brotherhood — just how they interact with each other, how the coaches interact with the players. I can tell how, they're definitely family-oriented too, so that's definitely, like, a big thing.”
On relationships with the coaching staff:
“Coach [Beard], you know, he has a certain coaching style that I just love. He's just that super energetic, funny coach, so that's definitely what I like to see. I definitely have a good relationship with Coach KB.”
“I really mess with him, like his coaching style, his personality. That's a big reason that, like, I came here today because of him. He's a players coach, so he really connects with his players really well, and I feel like that's really why I like Miami a lot.”
On where he’s at in his recruiting process:
“Just continuing to feel out, like, how I can see myself at this school, in this offense, I'm still in the point of my recruiting process where I'm just trying to feel everything out still.”
“Trying to hopefully get an OV with [Miami],schedule it and we'll see where it goes from there.”
On players that caught his eye during practice:
“Malachi Toney I mean, he just looked like what he does – it's just different, so that's definitely someone that stood out to me.”
On the top schools in his recruitment process:
“I would probably say Alabama, Tennessee, Washington, and that last OV — I went on a visit to Ohio State, I'm here now, and then I go to Notre Dame next week, so I'm just trying to pick an OV out of those three schools, and that's probably my, gonna be in the top four after that.”
“Alabama, they've just been talking to me for a while now, and as soon as Coach Shepard left, the new receiver coach, Coach Nix, just made an emphasis on me and just made me a priority.”
“Tennessee, I really feel like I could fit in their offense really well. Coach Pope, Coach Heupel, they’ve been doing amazing things over there — had three receivers go over 800 yards.”
“And then Washington, they're one of the first schools that ever offered me, and they just continue to build that relationship. I just have really good relationships with all of them”
“Miami's definitely still up there. So I'm still just trying to feel everything out and see if I could really see myself going here.”
