2018 Alabama commit talks Canes

After recently committing to Alabama last month, 2018 ATH Xavier Williams says he's open to every school, but there's one school that's pushing Alabama to the test -- the University of Miami.

"I'm still 100% committed to Alabama," says Williams. "Miami is my #2 right now and they're pushing for me really hard."

Williams attends Chaminade-Madonna HS, a school that hasn't sent a player to Miami since Jordan Futch in 2008.

"I don't really focus on that," Williams said. "I really like Miami, it's just that I had a better relationship with Alabama and they had a better relationship with my family and you know sometimes you just have to solidify a position with them."

With Williams only being a junior, his recruitment has a long way to go.

"Miami still has a chance of course," said Willams "Recruiting has picked up actually since I committed to Alabama."

"Miami is home, they're making more of a priority, which they did before, they're just turning it up a notch."

Williams will be visiting Miami next week for Junior Day, he also mentioned that he might fly out to Alabama for their Junior Day after the Nike Opening.

He'll decommit soon and commit to Miami soon.

It's been awhile since we had a big-time player from the school (Beason)....

I'd like Williams, but given the talent that's in the state at receiver, I'm not stressing this recruitment. Miami will gets theirs, that's for sure. But it is refreshing to be on the other side of this article, ie - kid committed here and says he's 100% committed, but open to other schools.

Remember... that was relationship pre-Cristobal leaving, Kiffin leaving, Zark leaving, and Nappier leaving... they ain't nobody left to have a relationship with...except Saban..he's not the relationship type, plus he the HC.

I'm trying to figure out outside of Saban, who at Bama he has such a long standing relationship with. They just overhauled their entire staff.

Funny that he wants to solidify his spot as if saban won't drop him the instant somebody else comes along. ****, saban will drop him for even talking to other schools.

I am one to say Alabama will have to work for every top receiver that they try to pluck out of our backyard from this point on.

Conclusion - bama is leaning too hard on his family for him to change his mind. These recruits reveal an awful lot in these interviews by what they say and don't say.

It was truly hard to keep up since I was coaching a team out there but based on the kids we went up against and the games I got to see when we were idle: Warren Thompson, Al Blades, Alontae Taylor, AJ Hampton, Jordan McCloud, Asante Samuel stood out...there were a lot more but I didn't know everyone's name.

This. To me he saying I had to commit because the coaches put the pressure on or I had to commit for the Che k to clear. Either way sounds like unwanted advances. I'm calling rape here.

So basically, in modern college football recruiting, being committed really means, naming a leader. Got it.

It sounds like Alabaga told him to commit if he wants a spot, but they'll get back to him on whether or not it's actually available.

With some more success, it will be nice to have recruits telling these teams to go pound sand when they try this crap.
