The 2015 recruiting cycle is still about a year away from really kicking into gear, but for special talents such as University School RB Jordan Scarlett (5’11, 200), he has already garnered offers from some of the top programs in the country.

“University of Miami, Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, Louisville, Rutgers, and I have some more that I cant really think of right now. UM is sticking out, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Alabama too.”

Miami is definitely a program that the sophomore is keeping an eye on.

“They look like a young team and by the time I get there in the next few years it will be a really good school as far as the campus and just the players, it’s gonna be a really good team. Maquedius Bain told me he took a visit and he loved it. He said it was just like University School, it’s a really good family atmosphere and everybody loves each other so that’s what I’m looking for and it’s right close to home.”

Scarlett has been impressed by the play of ‘Canes freshman, Duke Johnson.

“I watched them versus Boston College, and I didn’t think he (Duke) would do so good at first, but he did what he had to do. I like how they’re playing young players.”

Being a bigger back causes some concern for some people, but Scarlett thinks his size is to his advantage.

“It helps me gain some more yardage. I still might get a little bit taller, ‘cause my dad’s 6’6. I want to play it (running back), but once I get to the college level and there’s a position that benefits me more, then I wouldn’t mind changing.”

There are a few things he is looking for in a college program.

“The academics first, I want to see if I’ll play, and the family atmosphere on campus.”

U-School is known for their high-octane spread attack, which is a system that Scarlett enjoys playing in as a running back.

“Yeah, I like it (the spread system). It takes some pressure off the running game and before they know it, I’m breaking one on them. There’s such a threat with the passing game with Jordan Cunningham, Dionte Taylor and so forth that it’s just so easy when I get the ball because I have to make a couple people miss then keep it moving.”

A couple of his teammates are Miami targets that he happens to be very close with.

“I’m really close to Quay Bain and Jordan Cunningham. I knew them from before school so we’re more like family.”
