Miami's D

It's a lack of critical thinking skills, really.

Some people can't distinguish between these two claims:

1. The Canes defense is better than it was last year.
2. The Canes defense is good, and where we should expect a Canes defense to be.

The first is true for anyone who cares to look (or who remembers the string of 500+ yard games last year, where the D was bailed out by the O). The second is obviously false, as we continue to struggle against dominant run teams, like Nebraska and GTech.

Our strength of schedule means jack, we're 0-2 vs teams in the top 30. Our defensive stats have clearly come by way of FAMU (Alma Mater), Cincinnati, and Arky State in statistics these are known as outliers. We've looked terrible on defense vs every team we've played with any signs of life on offense.

Forget the stats. Just look at the way they play defense. Missed tackles, terrible alignment, no TFL's, no sacks, no interceptions. Its pathetic, there's no way to defend it. And not to mention we have only played 1 passing team. Wait till we get a few real QB's throwing against us.

Were #22 in total defense and have played a top 20 schedule.. I dont get it either

Stop cherry picking stats. We lost to teams with half the talent we have. The defense is terrible and trending down.

THO, agreed and OP enough with the propaganda, we'll see tomorrow night. Here are a few more telling stats:

Hurricanes are 56th of 128 teams in run defense, BUT that ranking plummets to 115th on the road, where Miami has faced its best competition.

The Hurricanes are 104th in tackles for loss. They have not been able to pressure the quarterback consistently.

This all day. We have settled for moral victories and cherry picked stats as a means to justify and verify that we are trending up. We are not trending at all. There is no hash tags worthy of this program right now. Our defense is just as deplorable. For GOD'S SAKE we gave up a 3rd and 16 to a team that has 0 PASSING ATTACK. We are still giving up 296/gm on the ground. Golden and D'Onforio are nothing more than spectacular used car salesmen.

I see your fan base are acting like petulant kids flying banners and not showing any support for your team. I see the focus seems to be on your D. Do you not see any improvement?

Why the Defense?

Golden is a poor coach.

1-22 against teams that finished with fewer than 5 losses in a season
0-9 vs teams that finished ranked while at UM.

0-11 vs teams that finished ranked in his career.

OP I forgot to add , I'm really interested in the 2nd half stats tomorrow night. We have been outscored 2:1. That means D'No makes zero adjustments or ineffective adjustments.

Yards Per Play
2012 - 6.11 (last in ACC)
2013 - 5.75
2014 - 4.46.
You have improved 22% since 2012

Scoring Defense
2012 - 30.5
2013 - 26.8
2014 - 24.4
You have improved 21% since 2012

Rushing Defense
2012 - 218 yards per game
2013 - 177
2014 - 151
You have improved 31% since 2012

Passing Defense
2012 - 268 yards per game (last in ACC)
2013 - 249
2014 - 175 (second in ACC)
You have improved 35% since 2012

Recruiting
2011 - 36
2012 - 9 (class of 33)
2013 - 20
2014 - 12
2015 - 14
2016 - 1

Clearly improving. I think 2012 at 9 is deceiving as it was 33 in total and I think about 1/2 are gone. 2014 teams are made up largely of players from 2011-2013. You can not count on true freshman as you currently are. In other words, I think you should be VERY critical of Golden but perhaps you are going a bit far.

Once again, the main portion of the dinner is coming up, all we have eaten so far is the appetizers and it seems to have upset our stomach.

Negged -- but repped for making me laugh.!

these idiots are using 2012 as the point of comparison for "improvement"

smfh

that was the worst defense in school history. you retards are completely brainwashed by F/A/G

how about comparing these defenses to any of the defenses pre-Grohlden? its very ugly

not here to gloat.. we shall see with the entire season under the belt. I just was pointing out that your D is much improved. Granted VT sucks but still holding them to 6 at home is pretty impressive. VT has not been shut out in 251 games in a row.
