Donna's Legacy

Congrats on the stupidest freaking post of the day.

Your university is located smack in the middle of the most fertile recruiting area in the nation.... by a long shot.

It should not take TEN YEARS to field a competitive football team.

That fact alone implies either mismanagement, or a lack of focus on football.

If they wanted to win, they would win. They aren't interested. All they care about is squeezing the last few remaining drops of cash from the few gullible fans that are still left (most have already bailed on this program) before the well inevitably dries up for good.

This post makes me feel like a sucker little *****. Perspective .

She will always be remembered for ruining Miami football.

When she arrived, we had Butch Davis at head coach, the orange bowl, and the greatest winning tradition in college football.

She couldn't get a deal done with Butch, laughed as the orange bowl came crumbling down, and has overseen the fall of Miami to a 7-5 team year in/out.

She is more concerned with APR scores and keeping a spotless image than she is with winning.

Her head coaching hires: Larry Coker, followed by Randy Shannon, followed by Al Golden

She has not been able to keep an AD for more than a month at a time.

The only way she could keep an AD working for her is by promoting a glorified accountant Blake "the snake" James, that spineless sack of ****

NO facility imporvements, investment in the program at all relative to other programs

This week, she had the chance to change that. She had a chance to hire a great coach, to leave her lasting legacy as one that turned Miami around.

She spat in our faces.

**** that little troll.

This is all on Donna and our crap BOT.

OK, there's plenty of valid criticisms about DS (the admin has actively tried to distance themselves from the stuff that made Miami special, and was late with facility improvements) but most of this is nonsense.

1. Butch left right before signing day in early 2001. Shalala didn't take over until June 2001. So she had nothing to do with Butch.

2. Yeah we lost 2 AD's but had Paul Dee forever and now we have Blake James. Both of them have been underperforming, so it's fair to criticize her there. Criticizing her for 2 AD's leaving quickly is stupid.

3. There have been a ton of recent facility improvements. They came late, and UM was reactive as usual, but saying that there were "NO" facility improvements is just wrong.

Every single year since Shalala took over, this program has been in steady decline from a W/L perspective.

She has made poor hires, or has been unable to retain the good hires she has made. Hence all the turnover.

She has mismanaged coaching contracts.... giving extensions where they weren't warranted.

She stood idly by as the historic Orange Bowl, the only chance Miami ever had at its own stadium, crumbled down around her.

She has done NOTHING since that terrible day to rectify the situation.... keeping us at that morgue known as Sun Life Stadium. Don't talk to me about facility improvements. Until we have our own stadium, we have no facilities.

Fact.... we had a stadium before Donna.... we have no stadium now after Donna. Hence.... overall, our facility situation since she took over has been DOWNGRADED.

Her leadership, from a football perspective, has been garbage.

You're writing to convince the wrong person. I'm not disagreeing with you on the gist of your post. I'm saying that some of it is factually wrong. Saying stuff like "until we have our own stadium, we have no facilities" doesn't mean anything when we just built a whole new athletic center and upgraded the practice fields.

Why is this hard to understand? In the bigger picture, our facilities have been DOWNGRADED during Shalala's tenure. A stadium matters a **** of a lot more than some puny athletic center.

We had one before she became president. We don't have one today. I hold her directly responsible for that.

Don't talk to me about practice fields.

She even had David Beckham handed to her on a silver platter. That guy was willing to pay for the whole ******* stadium, and where was Donna? Where was the leadership from our president there? The admin ****ed up and now we're stuck in no-life for another 20 years.

You forgot to mention her being conned by Nevin Shapiro, even Randy Shannon knew the guy was bad news and banned him, yet she let the conman run on to the field.

Her legacy is tied to UHealth. It's been struggling, but things are so ****ed up down here that they still have a 50/50 shot of making it a real success. If only because they keep throwing money at it, it's rife with controversy and corruption, yet still alive.

only reason it's alive it's because it can't fail. hospitals can not fail.

Except the public face of the University of Miami has always been its football team. The layman not living in South Florida doesn't give a toss about UHealth.

Ironically enough, most of UM's students, donors, and faculty are not from South Florida.

Some hospital in Coral Gables means squat to anyone not local to that area.

The face of the University has been football only since 1983. People forget how much we sucked before that.

As far as UHealth, the had a net profit of over $100 million dollars this year on revenues of $2.5 billion. Those kind of numbers make the football team look a lot less important to the BOT.

end of the day her job is to be president of a university not the GM of a football team. she is a liberal academic who hates football.

Killing our football program is what I will know her for. **** that short, troll-lookin dyke bytch.

You're arguing just to argue. Shalala didn't have anything to do with Butch like you claimed. Our facilities have been upgraded. We didn't have a stadium before she became president, btw. The City of Miami did. There's plenty of fair criticisms to levy that don't involve falsehoods.

Well then the BOT is full of retards.

A.) The football team is an advertising and brand-driving vehicle for the University which just happens to pay for itself. You shouldn't be comparing it to the hospital in the first place.

B.) From a brand recognition standpoint, the University of Miami is still best known for its football. Nobody outside Coral Gables knows or cares about the hospital. And whereas 10 years ago we had a recognizable and valued brand, in the past decade, we've sank deeper into oblivion. In fact, being an average academic institution with a middling football program has meant that most people have average or middling opinions on the university at large, if they've even heard of us.

C.) 100 million net profit on 2.5 billion revenue is a crap investment, which serves this crap BOT and crap administration right. And that's most likely before interest and taxes anyway, so more likely the investment has the university underwater.

D.) I hope that ******* hospital sinks them

end of the day her job is to be president of a university not the GM of a football team. she is a liberal academic who hates football.

End of the day, her job was to run the University of Miami, which INCLUDES the football team.

We had a stadium, jackass. Doesn't matter if it was leased from the city, the perception was that it was the Miami Hurricane's stadium. We had our own ring of honor. We were the only team that played there.

What part of WE HAD A STADIUM, AND NOW WE HAVE NO STADIUM is difficult for your brain to wrap around? I mean Christ, it couldn't be any simpler.

Donna stood by chuckling while the Orange Bowl was demolished. So **** that **** in the ear.

And **** you for implying that downgrading to Sun Life but gaining some *** *** training field is an "improvement" in our facility situation. It's not. And you, and Blake James, and Donna, and all your little snarky friends who want to try to sell that bull**** can shove it up your ***.

If the university really is neck deep in to this hospital, look for them to hire a businessman, CEO type for the next president, not a fundraising politician. That's if they have any sense at all, which is questionable.

No the reason we don't have a stadium is because we never had one to begin with. It needed upgrades, badly, and the city refused to do it. It was becoming a safety hazard, and the city decided to let us walk away, and let the marlins move there. If we had owned it, we never would have lost it; we would have raised money for the upgrades. That's what the guy is saying. And If we are looking at facilities as a whole, we improved on a lot of things. Its funny how the guy is clearly not saying she has left a good legacy as far as football is concerned, but you are trying to make it out to be that way.

And who was the champion for UM, standing up for the school's interests? Where was Donna Shalala with her so-called political connections when we needed her to call in a favor?

It's funny how USC was in the exact same boat as us, but they didn't lose their stadium.... they used their clout in the city of Los Angeles to have it saved and even given over to them.

That's because they had effective leadership who pushed for it. What did Donna do? I don't recall her doing a thing. I recall the entire University of Miami standing idly by while Jeff Loria took the entire city of Miami, bent it over, and ****ed it raw to the tune of billions in tax dollars for that joke of a baseball stadium.

Weak leadership on the part of UM allowed that to happen. Donna had the clout and the standing in the community to fight it.... she chose not to. That's a failure on her part.
