Creating a thread to track how Zo's eval has changed the course of who is prioritized and who is deprioritized in the 2023 cycle and how that ultimately affected their decisions.

  1. Jalen Brown. Zo apparently did an eval and came away unimpressed (@Stevo365 said last week someone new to the program did the eval, has to be Zo). Still had an offer, @Cribby says he was still a take even after the eval and @Brooklyndee said he was a silent before he ultimately committed to LSU. I don't think it was a coincidence that he ended up at LSU after Zo's eval.
  2. Hykeem Williams. @Stevo365 said his recruitment totally turned around once Zo did an eval. Now both @Stevo365 and @DMoney are saying we're in a very, very strong spot with him.
Another factor to consider. As @TheOriginalCane points out, when Zo does these evals, its likely for the college level AND for what they could be at the NFL level. These evals are likely shared w/the recruits and that has to have a huge impact on a recruit when they know this is what he did for a living for multiple decades in the pros.

I get the brown one. But weren’t we high on hykeem back in Jan/feb? I remember the hype machine was real back then.
You're right, @1murhurricane said Mario told Hykeem earlier on he was #1 on the WR board. However, go back and listen to the CaneInsight episodes. @Stevo365 was real frustrated about the amount of attention Keem was getting. This has suddenly changed over the last month or two.
So there was a disconnect there between the original board and the focus on Hykeem.

I mean I saw comments that we had Keem #1 on our board but I’m not certain that means we’re in a good spot with him right now, which implies we’re right in there with the leaders. Doesn’t feel like we’re at that stage yet. I’m glad we’re trying though and we’ve got a helluva staff.

Last huge nugget of news from @Stevo365 on tonight's CaneInsight Live. Says he's seen the text messages from 8&4 recruits and they are frosted about the lack of follow through on NIL payments. Methinks this might have an impact on Keem's decisions and our sudden new found resurgence on his board along with Zo's eval.

Edit: Updated link to directly play @Stevo365 8&4 commentary

I had the same thought…

It looks poor for me to say because he didn’t pick Miami. But before he committed to LSU I had a buddy close to program tell me Brown would probably commit to Miami but said I as a fan wouldn’t be all that impressed. He said he’s on the smaller skinny side, and drops some balls. He said it would be a good pick up for momentum purposes and ranking but Miami fans would be disappointed with results.

We just need to get him down here for the BBQ and then serve him some of those bang bang noodles. It's a wrap after that..... 😉👍

Miami just turned up the heat on Hakeem. Wide Right podcast talked to dude from SFE who confirmed. Brown just wanted to get out of Miami, known fact. Not saying Zo didn't do something to affect these guys but also zero evidence to suggest it.

Don’t these NIL agreements have contracts with other schools? Or are these handshake deals. Because most of these top kids I thought hired ‘agents’ to handle this and I can’t imagine that they’d sit idly by as payments laid out are missed.

Problem is contract language. We have enough people in here who can explain this far better than I can, but I deal with law at work every day and I can tell you:

Contract language can be really really shady and subject to differing interpretation. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a legal case in the upcoming months or years, where a College Athlete sues a collective for breach of contract.

Too much emphasis on speed, not enough on route-running, etc. Plus, the NFL draft interviews conversations that Alonzo is having with these guys are making an impact on who to sign.
