Zack Moss

One of our worse misses of recent vintage, tbh.

Miami is a different team today with Zack Moss and Tyler Huntley the past four years. Might have played in the playoffs during the Turnover Chain season.

Moss wasn’t necessarily a miss by the staff because we did get quality backs here who were as skilled and durable (DJ & Homer). He would have added depth in the backfield as another RB who can get those tough yards (especially with our OL struggles). The miss was the that at least 90% of the posters on this site who felt he wasn’t Miami caliber.

Case in point. He was never pursued again. We had the opportunity to reel him back in. Miami stopped contacting.

How exactly is that being pushed out?

Willie Moise got pushed out, Moss decommitted and committed to mother school before Richt was hired.

Behind our OL? LOL

Brady and Sanders wouldn’t have made a diff with our OL and coaching staff.

Moss was just a bad miss. It hurts but it happens.

Looking back at threads at the time, the general feeling was:

- Moss's best comp was Mike James. Most, including myself, didn't think it was much of a loss at the time. He was the #68 RB in the 2016 class
- Miami fan base really wanted Carlin Fils-Aime, who went to Tennessee and didn't do much
- FSU took Amir Rasul
- UF took Mark Thompson & Lamical Perine

Miami got Travis Homer in 2016 so we got a good RB - but most schools just missed on Moss would like a do over on this one

These could woulda shoulda threads are always fun

We always seem to conveniently leave out the 3stars we dropped or never pursued that ended up not doing much

I like Homer and DeeJay Dallas. I really do.

Zack Moss is better than both. He just is.

Moss and Huntley on Miami change the entire direction of the program. They do not make us title contenders, but stability at QB and a great collegiate back like Moss change our fortunes the past few years.

Should've taken all those guys you are correct.

I don’t agree with you on Moss being better but I was one of the few posters who was big on Moss when we recruited him. Just curious. If you were posting during his recruitment, were you big on Moss then or after the fact?

You are correct. Now for those who believe Moss would have made more impact here than DJ & Homer, you are mistaken. As much as liked Moss’s game and wanted him in the class, he would have fallen victim to the same OL issues Homer & DJ did. I would liken Moss closet to Homer than DJ in running style. Like Homer, Moss is more of a one cut strait line runner with little wiggle. Like Homer, he requires a little space to allow him to get going. DJ is a different type of back with more wiggle and great vision. DJ, has an ability to find gaps when there appears none. He sometimes danced a bit too much but he was more patience as a runner than Homer and Moss. He believes in his ability to find an opening so he doesn’t settle as much. Homer and Moss are a bit less patient and try to use momentum to get what they can ehe holes don’t immediately present themselves. The point is, our OL presented challenge for every back who came through the program recently. As much as I loved Moss game, his level of talent and running style wouldn’t have transcended the issues we had on the OL. He would not have gained as much yardage with our OL as he did in Utah.
