Workaround to Pay Athletes, SIAP

I know this was brought up a couple of years ago. Seems like they now have more of a concrete plan.

"The plan can be viewed as a bit of a half-measure, with the due acknowledgement that it is indeed a step of progress when compared to the present system. In their imagined world of college athletics, athletes would continue to give up their ability to make money for their skills while in college, with their compensation only paid out upon graduation. Until then, they would not be allowed to contact any of the companies that fuel their payments, like those in the shoe, apparel, or video game industries. Instead, an independent non-profit clearinghouse would operate as representation for the athletes, negotiating individual and group deals.

The key innovation here is the formation of the clearinghouse. The institution would basically be doing what an agent could do for the athletes, only everyone has the same agent in this scenario. It would be operated by a board and a CEO, with four committees, made up of appointees from the board, the NCAA, and a variety of college athletics groups."

There's more info in the article.

There is no middle ground. Either we pretend kids aren't getting paid and are "amateurs" or we pay them. As soon as the NCAA gives up an inch of ground the whole house of cards that is college athletics will collapse.

I like certain parts of the plan, but the committees made up of board members & the NCAA just creates another middle man that will put in a whole bunch of red tape that keeps the players from actually getting paid.

Just remove all the roadblocks & allow the apparel companies to compensate the players if you don't want the school's paying them directly.

If Adidas, Under Armor, Nike, Puma, Reebok etc., wants to pay athletes then let them & if want it to keep it from getting out of control just put a cap on how much they're allowed to spend per school. So for example, you can't have Nike spending $10million in one year with Bama. But since multiple schools have deals with multiple companies all those schools get the same amount that can be spent to pay the athletes per year. Meaning all Nike, Adidas, UA, Puma etc schools get the exact same amount.

And yes, there will still be some unfairness in the system, so what. It's not the perfect model & it never will be, but the fact remains the more they pretend the NCAA is run on amateurism the more cheating will get more rampant behind the scenes than it already is.

Either way, the money (both corporate & private) that people want to give these kids isn't going to disappear no matter what the rules are.

The boosters are the biggest issue. And nearly impossible to do anything about. Nevin Shapiro just got butthurt and went full ******. The major programs from the state schools and $EC play the dirty game well. We just caught a bad break from a ****y idiot. Regardless if they’re “paid”, they’ll be “paid” on the back end too. And remember...

Imagine this. Street agents all over the place promising the best compensation packages after college, legally. this sport is going to get uglyyyyy

On top of everything else, now Miami has to be EXTRA careful about boosters. More than most schools. To the point of putting warnings out to fans to avoid all contact with players. Meanwhile, the fans at Clemson have GoFundme accounts to pay players post graduation.

I agree...and the team with the most money will have the best team...If they are allowed to get regulated money...then it will be nearly impossible to monitor the illegal piles of money... but they should be compensated but how is the question
