Will UNC get the Death Penalty?

NCAA is just a toothless bully anymore. They can throw their weight around and all, but they botched up their reputation too much with Miami.

Did any of those players receive free salads at any of the local dining establishments? If no, then what would be the grounds for such a harsh penalty????

According to the report, one former head football coach, John Bunting, admitted to knowing of the paper classes and his successor, Butch Davis, also admitted some knowledge.

Misleading article.

Admitting that athletes had access of easy courses doesn't constitute that Butch Davis had "some" knowledge of the fraudelent courses. Every Div I football program in the nation offers easy classes for its athletes.

Current men's basketball coach Roy Williams is steadfast that he did not know, Wainstein said.

Right. Ole' Roy had no idea that an athlete could take easy classes at UNC. His players have been taking advanced calculus/corporate taxation courses since he took over.

UNC will burn their football program to the ground if it meant protecting their prestigious basketball program.

One thing we know is if this had occurred at The U, not only would there be more sensationalized coverage, but the Death Penalty would be thrown around like a baseball. This is another example of the selected coverage by the media. Notre Dame, FSU and now NC have all encountered cheating scandals, but at no consequence to their programs. When I was at USF back in the day, the White Frats all had copies of exams. I used to wonder why I never saw them studying for very tough business classes and always get A's on exams. I thought they were just smarter until I found out too late that they had the exams. There are thousands of people with degrees that cheated their way through college, not just athletes.

Seriously. A professional conman alleges a few free boat rides, dinners, and bottles -- which are typical for plenty of UM students anyway -- with minimal evidence and people call for the entire program to be shut down, yet UNC shreds the entire foundation of the NCAA's billion dollar industry -- the concept of the student first, athlete second amateur "student-athlete" -- over 18 years using thousands of kids with tangible evidence and it's hardly a story.

Man, I can't wait to be the best again. It makes the hatred taste so much sweeter.

Unless I see a mention of Benihana in the report, this is a non-story.

unless all those UNC students took those fake classes twice, it can't be corroborated.

UNC is deserving of whatever they get with all of the cheating that's been going on over a long period of time. This apparently goes back 10 years & encompasses hundreds of athletes (3 basketball NC's during that time) & could get very NCAA ugly. People are already being fired. This may very well be the biggest academic fraud fiasco ever.

death penalty for one of the ncaa's cashcows?
