Chuck Pagano.

We might get a gift like Michigan if we're lucky. Pagano could be our Harbaugh. Successful NFL coach beefs with the GM, is fired, sours on the pros and not having full control of his program, returns to a school he has ties to.

Assuming he gets fired, which due to "growing friction with the GM," seems very likely, I'm jumping Pagano up near the top of my list. This also assumes another NFL team doesn't snatch him up, which I think could happen, but this shlt would be ******* nice.

Attached at the hip with Butch Davis from 1995 - 2004.

- Spent all 5 years with Butch Davis at Miami as special teams and secondary coach.

- Next 5 years in the NFL as secondary coach. 4 with Butch in Cleveland, one with Oakland.

- Reunites with Butch and returns to college in 2007 at North Carolina as defensive coordinator. Took a defense that ranked 92nd the year before he arrived and brought em up to 35th.

- That earned him a 4-year stint with the Ravens and John Harbaugh from 2008 - 2011. First 3 years as secondary coach before becoming defensive coordinator in 2011, where he improved their total defense from 10th to 3rd.

- First ever shot as a head coach in Indy, he wins 11 games three straight times with a largely unimpressive roster, and as much as I hate to say it, an overrated QB short on experience and heavy on turnovers.

He's got experience and success as a college coordinator, NFL coordinator, and NFL head coach. He would bring Chud along in Chud's rightful role - coordinator, and he was the right hand man to Butch Davis for a very long time. He's also highly-regarded by John Harbaugh and brings pro-level experience and pedigree.

We would be lucky as fvck to stumble into a ****ed off Pagano looking to leave the pro game behind.

I would sign on for that. I still don't understand what the issue is between him and the GM but quite frankly I don't care.

A guy influenced by Butch and Rex Ryan and was a coach on staffs that has some monster defenses? Yes, please!

I said the same thing about Harbaugh, why would a really good NFL coach leave the NFL?

Harbaugh was a top 5 coach and certainly could have got another gig in the NFL. Then he gets released and Michigan takes him.

Pagano, while not as good as Harbaugh, is a good HC. IMO, he would and deserves another HC gig if the Colts were dumb to let him go.

I don't know if he would want to come back to college but he is a no-brainer or a home run. After his bout with Cancer, I am not sure if he would even want to spend time recruiting.

Wanting Al to lose his job is one thing. Rooting for another Cane to lose his it not the way to go. We have prior NFL HC out there we can hire already.

Other than Butch, this hire would make the most sense to me.

Knows the SF culture and what it takes to win here. Great defensive coordinator. I agree that Chud is a great OC.

I still hope we BBB, but Pagano would be the next best choice, in my opinion.

I have been saying this since last year. I live in Indy. Pagano is not going to be the coach next year. He would be a perfect fit as our HC.

Would you agree the OL is awful and they haven't exactly done a great job drafting talented players up there?

Bruce Arians is the one that won the 11 games the first year not Pagano overrated ***.

Arians is a f***ing savage. Unrelated to our coaching search, but he's done incredible work at Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and now Arizona. Been one of the best in the profession for years.
