I'm not asking why he was hired as head coach. I'm asking why he was hired as DC, because I still don't understand it.

If you can believe it or not, the idea of Brian Vangorder becoming DC was less hated on here than the idea of Manny Diaz becoming DC. Look at old threads from December 2016 if you don't believe me.

I know that Richt and Pruitt didn't get along. (And actually Jimbo and Pruitt didn't get along either, which is why Jimbo basically fired Pruitt after winning the 2013 NC.) But why couldn't Richt find anybody more qualified than Diaz? Diaz was basically the least qualified person for the DC job Richt possibly could have found.

I'm half wondering if the school forced Richt to hire Diaz, because they thought it would get UM some kind of political clout due to his dad.

Because we didn't have enough coins for Dave Aranda

Makes absolutely no sense.

Even if we couldn't land Aranda, why didn't Richt hire, well, just about anybody not named Manny Diaz?

I'm not asking why Richt didn't hire Pruitt, why he didn't hire Aranda, etc. I'm asking why he hired Diaz.

Seriously, Diaz should have been option 10,000,000,000 for the DC job after how bad he was at Texas. If Richt didn't want Pruitt and couldn't land Aranda, I'm sure there were still plenty of guys with better resumes than Manny Diaz he could have landed.

He wanted an attacking 4-3 and Manny has Miami roots. This conspiracy of he was hired bc of his dad is nonsense and pathetic. Manny while in over his head isn’t the entire problem. Shouldn’t be the HC but proved to be a more than capable DC under Richt.

I agree with this. His hire as DC did not seem like a reach or a head scratcher.

Sure, there were better options, but Manny’s time as DC was a success. Our defense improved immensely in all categories in comparison to the previous regimes. The D was solid with exception of a few games.

This year, the D has regressed in all categories. We look really bad after bye weeks, especially our tackling or lack there of. Yes, that is on Manny as well as Baker.

Now, Manny as HC has been awful. I think the admin was scrambling after Richt left without warning. I think of Manny as Will Muschamp. Good DC, but horrible HC. Some coordinators are not meant to be HC and Manny is proving to be one of those.

from what i know, they thought of Manny like a jimbo fisher. you can see the similarities in terms of selling the program, but thats as far as the comparison goes. fisher, while he hasn't been special at ATM, is 10000x the coach numb nuts diaz is. thank god, sports doesnt matter in the long run and the losses dont stick with me anymore. none of this **** affects my daily life.

Could've matched or topped the $2.5M LSU offered Aranda—he was still going to Baton Rouge as that was a better job.

Why would anybody want to serve under the worst coach in Ole Miss football history (who’s hiring at LSU everybody was correctly laughing at) rather than serve under a guy who had been a solid, albeit declining, coach at UGA?

I think Aranda only went to LSU because of salary.

lmao we went paying 2.5 for a coordinator. idc what funds we have, the BOT will never spend that money. were spending 3 mill on manny as a P5 HC.
