The media is in full swing bashing this program for the fan base flying the planes, not giving Al Golden a chance, etc. But we all know we did the right thing. We could see the bull**** Al Golden was spilling and they couldn't. Now, they think this program is a lost cause, and everyone else has caught up and surpassed us. That could be the case, but if we make the most out of this hire we can catch up really quick and here is why:
First off, we have Brad Kaaya. The new coach can come in with arguably the best pocket passing QB in the country in 2016, who as a sophomore is already the leader of this team. Alongside Kaaya we bring back 12 deep on the OL (although the unit is struggling mightily this year), Arguably the best TE unit in college football is coming back (Dobard, Njoku, Herndon, Washington, and throw in Michael Irvin Jr), WR is not a weakness led by Stacy Coley, and a full stable of versatile RB. Needless to say any offensive coach is looking at this and imagining what he can do with this team.
On defense, we return a ton of good DL prospects. Chad Thomas, AQM, Gerald Willis is eligible, Ken Norton, Anthony Moten, Courtel Jenkins, Trent Harris, DJack, etc. LB is depleted but with Grace, Young, Owens, the players are there. Secondary is a similar situation as LB. Our DL could really bail out the other units next year to allow them to develop and catch up.
The recruiting classes are already built through 2018, and it is south florida, you can win and get who you want.
A lot of ex canes sons, and relatives are coming up in the next few classes and want to be canes. We just need someone that can prove they wont make a mistake with their future (Blades jr, Michael Irvin jr, Asante Samuel, Bethel, etc)
The foundation is there and our roster, especially on offense, is set up to hit the ground running. A new head coach could come in and make a Harbaugh type impact in year 1. Who is going to slow the canes down if that happens?
