Why the 1986 Miami Hurricanes Were the Most Hated Football Team Ever!

Why 1985? Because of the ND beatdown? Half of the country hated ND and laughed at the irony of ND ****ing and moaning about their *** beating after the *** beatings they had given lowly programs (including Miami) for years.

I agree with you. 1985 may have got the kindling lit, but the Fiesta Bowl pregame activities poured gas on the fire and made Miami the "Raiders" of college football for the next decade (and still thought of as such by some to this day).

I was at the U from 1982-86. IMHO, the ‘86 team was the best team ever…notwithstanding the Fiesta Bowl disappointment.

They absolutely dominated Penn State (believe the D gave up 175 total yards). Vinny single handily lost that game. JJ should have ran Alonzo on that last drive.

We loved being hated it was AWESOME, everyone hated us but they loved the money we made them by filling the stands and putting them on TV we brought big time advertising they loved the cash we made everyone as we picked there bones clean.

They loved saying NO NO NO STOP 🛑, but YES YES as they received there payday WE made for them .

Think Testaverde threw the ball 50 times in that game.

JJ came out of that game as a changed HC when it came to offensive strategy. Always remember him wanting a strong run game and preaching ball security above all.

This is such a myth.

The final drive was all passing, and UM moved the ball all the way down the field. If the OL holds its blocks and gives Vinnie more time and protection once we got inside the 10, we score the TD easily.

People forget about the sack. Once that happened, we didn't have enough time, timeouts, or short yardage to run the ball. There was a reason we were throwing so much, we needed clock stoppages in addition to yardage. If we ran the ball, we would have run out of time before scoring.

Let's not forget that infamous pedophile Jerry Sandusky was telling his players to hit Vinnie as hard as the could, and late hits were even more preferred.

Agreed that we had to pass at that point to move down to the PSU RZ, but Vinny almost threw another inexplicable Int early in the drive that was dropped by a PSU defender with no Cane within 5 yards.

1:45 minutes from PSU 25.
1:02 minutes from PSU 10.

That’s plenty of time to mix in the run, when the passes taken were the equivalent of running plays.

The sack only added to the desperation that never should have occurred.

I understand, and I was a student at the time. I loved Alonzo and Melvin. Had that poster of Melvin on my dorm wall.

Look, we had 43 rushes for 160 yards. That is less than 4 yards per run.

We had 285 yards on 26 completions. That is 11 yards per completion (and the incompletions stop the clock).

I've thought about it ever since. My heart wants to tell me that Alonzo or Melvin would have busted a couple of long runs to win the game. But the OL was straining towards the end of the game under all of the Pedo State defensive pressure. I'm not so sure the run would have worked. And I tend to be very trusting in The Playmaker and Brian Blades and the rest of the receivers. I understand about Vinnie's picks.

But if the OL had held up on 2nd and goal, we win that game. No doubt.

Or Bratton. Both backs went over 100 yards. And I think Penn St. had 110 yards if I remember correctly.

My pops told me all Jimmy had to was run the ball and play defense and Canes win, instead he kept letting Vinny throw picks

Season 6 What GIF by The Office

Melvin Bratton had 11 carries for 31 yards.

My bad-thought Bratton went off in that game too.

Didn’t our kicker miss a chip shot late in the 3rd/early 4th too? Could have been helpful at the end of the game.

Regarding that season as well -There was an awful sports illustrated story on the team that essentially called the program criminals and bad guys.

With 2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, the snap wasn't great and Kintigh didn't get the ball teed up well, so Seelig missed a 28 yarder.

3 (game) minutes later, Pedo State missed a 50 yarder.

I distinctly remember first and goal inside the 10 yard line. If memory serves me correct, Alonzo had over a 100 yards rushing at the time. No way they stop us if we give it ‘Zo 2 or 3 times. We score. Vinny had already thrown how many picks at that point? How many drives did he kill prior to that drive?

I maintain that if we run the ball, we win the game and crowned the undefeated national champions. That was the second most painful loss I have ever experienced (behind the Ohio Taint game).
