Think Testaverde threw the ball 50 times in that game.I was at the U from 1982-86. IMHO, the ‘86 team was the best team ever…notwithstanding the Fiesta Bowl disappointment.
They absolutely dominated Penn State (believe the D gave up 175 total yards). Vinny single handily lost that game. JJ should have ran Alonzo on that last drive.

Agreed that we had to pass at that point to move down to the PSU RZ, but Vinny almost threw another inexplicable Int early in the drive that was dropped by a PSU defender with no Cane within 5 yards. This is such a myth.
The final drive was all passing, and UM moved the ball all the way down the field. If the OL holds its blocks and gives Vinnie more time and protection once we got inside the 10, we score the TD easily.
People forget about the sack. Once that happened, we didn't have enough time, timeouts, or short yardage to run the ball. There was a reason we were throwing so much, we needed clock stoppages in addition to yardage. If we ran the ball, we would have run out of time before scoring.
Let's not forget that infamous pedophile Jerry Sandusky was telling his players to hit Vinnie as hard as the could, and late hits were even more preferred.

1:45 minutes from PSU 25.
1:02 minutes from PSU 10.
That’s plenty of time to mix in the run, when the passes taken were the equivalent of running plays.
The sack only added to the desperation that never should have occurred.
Or Bratton. Both backs went over 100 yards. And I think Penn St. had 110 yards if I remember correctly.I was at the U from 1982-86. IMHO, the ‘86 team was the best team ever…notwithstanding the Fiesta Bowl disappointment.

My pops told me all Jimmy had to was run the ball and play defense and Canes win, instead he kept letting Vinny throw picksI was at the U from 1982-86. IMHO, the ‘86 team was the best team ever…notwithstanding the Fiesta Bowl disappointment.

My bad-thought Bratton went off in that game too.
Didn’t our kicker miss a chip shot late in the 3rd/early 4th too? Could have been helpful at the end of the game.
Regarding that season as well -There was an awful sports illustrated story on the team that essentially called the program criminals and bad guys.
I distinctly remember first and goal inside the 10 yard line. If memory serves me correct, Alonzo had over a 100 yards rushing at the time. No way they stop us if we give it ‘Zo 2 or 3 times. We score. Vinny had already thrown how many picks at that point? How many drives did he kill prior to that drive? This is such a myth.
