you just can't bring in a new coach now to work with the previous HC's assistants. Anyone recall what happened in JJ's first year when he was strapped having to coach with Schnellenberger's assistants? That year was a disaster and he had to clean house the following year and bring his own guys in.

If you make a change mid season you can fire the HC and just promote someone as interim, like how the Dolphins did, what SC did when Spurrier retired, or what Maryland did.

This season is toast, it does not matter what Butch does if he is hired now, he can fire the staff at the end of the season, but he can recruit and bring in productive players, unlike the many unproductive players Golden has recruited.
