Why is there a disparity between combine and college numbers?

Got a SB Ring or 2....Point is...He was FB Fast and Track Fast (Hurdles)....
he signed with the 49ers. During his three years as a wide receiver he caught 43 passes for 754 yards, a 17.5 average, and four touchdowns. Although he was part of the Super Bowl winning team in the 1984 season, he did not play a major role. His football career is deemed by some to be a failure –

He was very fast no matter what kind of field he was on.

You'd think in today's world most schools would be able to align with nfl measuring/testing methods. Is it done on purpose to hype players with inaccurate numbers?

Bro, look no further than CBB, as well. High School sports as well. It’s called selling. The more kids get drafted, or signed, the better the rep of those schools will be. Just remember, Charles Barkley was 6’6 for yrs. lol.

Track Speed...and FB Speed are 2 different things...Some guys have both...Some like John Capel only really had track speed....
Renaldo Nehemiah...Hester...Kevin Williams...Horace Copeland...Brian Blades..etc..had both...

K Dub!!

Add .2 to hand times. Later is the only measurement schools should use. Nebraska has been using laser times since 1989. No reason colleges don’t use it except to inflate times for media bragging
I was being courteous lol nah I’m with you

I think the +/- on a 40 clocked with a stopwatch is .24 seconds. Also, it use to be commonplace to see teams before turf with pre-lined fields, clocking 40s that were 35-38 yards long. Yes, I'm ancient.

Combine is overrated
For the most part, I agree with you. The 40 alone is a waste of time for many position groups. Also, the stance these guys use to start in the 40 is far removed from football specific. Not a fan of the Bench for reps either, but I also think bench press is an over rated football move. Accessory lift not a major for football. Good not great.

The whole thing starts in HS with these combines. Go and look at some of the testing results from the UA combine this weekend. Laughable! Its more 4.4s and 4.3s than the friggin NFL combine

A punter just benched more reps than most recent 1st round picks

Hand timing and trying to make your players look as good as possible.

this, plus the combines introduces the mental aspect of it - lots of pressure, kids are up real early in the day doing interviews and whatnot, etc. that might affect a kids focus on getting a good start in the 40.

Some schools embellish more than others. I know when one of my kids was at UCLA his numbers (height, forty, etc) were very accurate compared to his NFL combine numbers. He actually ran .6 faster at the combine.

Miami still uses a **** stop watch. That's how I knew our LB's were slow, when I seen the "fastest 40" list from last spring. It got down to 4.7's and they STILL weren't on it.
