Well.

When Miami was establishing themselves as a tgood actual football team. And say what you want about Convicts vs Catholics.

From what I know about history back in the day is that when Miami went to Notre Dame.

They literally rocked our vans. Call my brothers Nigg I ain't finishing the rest of that.

Spit at us. And told us get the f*** out of here.

Besides the close games and the crazy touchdowns, but the bottom line is what I just said above

As a Gen x white dude. I stand next to all races. Especially Brothers. And come this first game this season we will put our foot up their f****** asses again.

Maybe I'm wrong and y'all the shoolls will correct me.

While UM/ND was a rivalry, it wasn't hostile until the Nov 30, 1985 game.

ND had hired a HS coach Gerry Faust and this was his last game after five years that went from mediocre to bad. Everyone knew Faust would be fired after this last game, but ND and college football decided he was a "good man" and should go out with class.

The color announcer was Ara Parsehgian who had been ND's (successful) head coach prior to Faust. Parsehgian was a ND man through and through. He decided after a certain UM lead that was enough and UM should just quietly run out the game so as not embarrass "good man" Gerry Faust. And Parsehgian viewed ND as an institutional icon. He thought ND was the center of the universe and should always be viewed with reverence.

Jimmy Johnson didn't agree and ran up the score 58-7 :ROFLMAO: Parseghian went ballistic, which was hysterical to us. And all the proper people in college football criticized JJ and UM. It ****ed all of them off more when JJ went on TV and said he didn't care lol

That's when the hatred started

I only wish that J.J. would’ve had our Canes score a couple of more TD’s on them. We actually ran the ball for the majority of that 4th quarter. Ara was butthurt because of the drubbing and accused Jimmy of “running up the score.” I remember that game like if it was yesterday. He was a major jabronie.

Faust looked like he was about to cry on the sidelines. After years of the Domers destroying us without a peep from the media, Miami finally got payback, and the good ole boys network couldn’t let that happen without creating a **** storm.

Notre Dame got mad because Miami did to them what they had been doing to lesser teams for decades. It was OK for Notre Dame to beat a military academy 40-0 but as soon as someone did it to them, it was a bunch of convicts running up the score against poor helpless Notre Dame.

I've always hated ND! It's just born in me. I also hate Penn State. I think Miami needs to start scheduling bigger games in the pre-ACC time in the schedule. Like this year! We got ND and Gators! This is how we beat the "ACC is a lesser conference" pablum. If we consistently have some big games in there, we are taking that talking point away. Also look how much press we are getting talking about ND and Gators!

That 58-7 beat down we out on their sorry asses is where you can start-

Before that ND was routinely beating schools by comparatively the same scores and nobody *****ed about it-

Then this little private school in Coral Gables pushed their **** in that day and they couldn’t handle it.

I worked with the uncle of Eric Dorsey, a DT for ND in that game and according to uncle majority of players tanked their practices leading to that game as well as the game itself. It was Thanksgiving week, they had a terrible season and they just wanted to be home for the holidays and I think this later came out in a book or two. So given these circumstances, why should the UM players and coaches care or even take the foot off the pedal? Especially after what happened the prior year when UM blew a 31 point halftime lead vs UofMaryland?

Thank you for this accurate account of where this started. The ND fans really showed their as**s and hypocrisy after taking this A**Whipping, based on their history of running up scores on teams, including the Canes.ND is/was a good team. Their legacy was enhanced by the Hollywood mythology of “ The Gipper” and the same ******* that brought us trickle down economics. The Fighting Irish, except when they lay down, then it’s someone else’s fault for running up the score. Can’t diminish their accomplishments, but can certainly expose the hypocrisy of their fan base when teams knock them off their mythical pedestal. Let’s hope when we S**tcan them in game one, we can hear the crying, whining and gnashing of teeth all the way from Touchdown Jesus in SouthBend. Go Canes🙌🏽

Every Senior Cane on this board knows that during the Fran Curci/ Mad Stork. Era , ND would come down here and absolutely sh*t on us. Parseghian or Dan Devine would do the same to us in South Bend. Payback was brutal in the Eighties.

It still is. Go Canes!
