It just doesn't make much sense.
A and M - atrocious special team play, red zone offense was sub optimal
MTSU - terrible coverage defense
UNC - terrible defense overall
VT - didn't lose but had 15 penalties that nearly cost us
DUKE - 8 turnovers and 2 turnovers on 4th down. Also we couldn't stop the QB draw
The Duke game is eerily similar to the Michigan State game last year. Had the same feel. The lack of a run game has cost us dearly in all our losses. Since Texas A&M we haven't cracked 100 yards rushing, net of the sacks. Even with the sack yard losses removed the 100 yard mark has barely been scratched.
I guess we can beat UVA next week. On offense they are one of the worst in 3rd down conversion percentage. We are one of the best at stopping teams on 3rd down. Perhaps that will change as it did during the Duke game.
I thought we could get to a bowl game this year even after the unc loss. Now I am not so sure. GTech is playing better with their head coach gone.
I can see us getting 5 wins but with the slate remaining 6 will be tough.
I hear a lot of people yapping about other coaches first years. I will give Mario time. We have no choice. That said these other coaches weren't getting blown out by the likes of MTSU or Duke. They were losing close games. Especially one named Dabo or Saban.
Hopefully we stop inventing new ways to lose and start winning. We can only hope.
