What did I do in the '80's, before football message boards? Subscribe to Dolphin Digest, Miami Herald, Miami News (all mailed in hard or actually sometimes home delivered in Virginia). Subscribe to every recruiting newsletter (all in paper copy,): Emfinger, SuperPrep, G&W, Lemming, Terranova, Bill Buchalter.
Call friends with the then long distance toll charges who lived in South Florida who used to get scoops from talkative coaches (particularly Kehoe).
Fly to games whenever I could.
There was a short-lived Hurricane newspaper that was actually printed by a former Herald beat writer named Dan Oudinot. Used to use Tom Curtis's Dolphin Digest production facilities. Of course I subscribed to that.
Actually, things were more fun back then. Now, being on a message board is like having not one, but several hundred miserable, neurotic whiney wives to deal with.
