That the president and BOT are constantly worried about how the football program is doing? Football is probably the 4th or 5th thing they are worried about after academics, research, money etc.....We are more Duke and Vanderbilt then we are Alabama and Ohio State.
I went to Miami undergrad, and to Yale for grad school.
Bro....
Miami is not in the same class as Duke or Vanderbilt. Duke and Vanderbilt are elite academic institutions. Their brands demand respect.
Miami is and always will be seen as a party school for rich kids from New Jersey who couldn't get in anywhere else.
Even Ohio State gets more respect academically than Miami does, at least in ivy league circles. Ohio State grads are seen as hard-working, salt-of-the-earth types, which is better than being a party school kid. Plus, Ohio State has done some interesting research. Miami has done what? Marine biology studies? Great, so it's a party school for surfers.
There is literally no difference, in the eyes of anyone who matters, between Miami and Alabama. As far as academics go, anyway. Actually, Alabama might even help you more in getting admitted to a good grad school or in getting a good job, because Alabama has a bigger and more active alumni network.
Miami is basically seen in the same light as a Pepperdine or Loyola. That's who you should be comparing the school to. Not Vanderbilt or Duke.
Those are the hard facts.
At least when Miami was good at football, it was known for something. It was a conversation starter. Now, when I tell people I did my undergrad at Miami, the most common follow-up questions are "oh, you guys are the gators, right?" followed by... "you must have gone to the beach a lot."
Duke or Vanderbilt.... lol.
