Can we talk about obvious things here, and not really just a bunch of opinions?
Nearly our entire coaching staff changed including the fact that we have a first year HC in Manny Diaz.
Why in the **** has our defense gone so far south? We lost some big time production on the DL, especially the strength GW had. We lost some real leadership in the defensive backfield and some great coverage guys. Clearly the new striker position has no concept of covering the RB out of the backfield when a QB checks down, or the TE, and this is primarily what this position is for. We get destroyed by that play by everyone. i know Diaz introduced the striker, but what in the **** is so different from last season? Are we trying to give the opposing offense too many looks? Are we over-complicating things for our own guys?
Clearly we are not doing a good job in coverage on post and fly routes.
Baker might have been Diaz protege, but when you try to introduce too much at one time, it creates a lot of confusion. Baker said he wanted to do that...but for opposing teams. I see our DB's a LB's look confused on coverage's way more often than not.
I like Romeo Finley, dude is very athletic, but I didn't see TE's and RB's gaining nearly as much against our defense last season, when he played striker.
The offense has a major issue on the OL and QB, but we all knew that coming into this season. Its not going to get fixed overnight, but I will say this and I will leave it here...Enos has to put up or shut up. This guy said he would be adaptive to the situations we face, right now he's facing an oline that has a hard time blocking any defensive end consistently, and two Qb's with decision making issues.I know its a challenge, but if the guy has the balls to talk **** about his players in front of the media, he better grow a pair and have the balls to stand behind his word and ******* ADAPT!!
I may be in the minority when I say I believe Manny can get it done, but he is certainly faced with some tough decisions regarding his coaching staff. Lots of people who are far more qualified than I would say that a new staff needs a couple of seasons to get the right pieces in place and fully implement a system. As far as Baker is concerned, he was supposed to be picking up where Manny left off, so I dont think this dud deserves a pass. Manny, as a young and first time HC, cannot afford to let this go 'unnoticed', this was his guy and I just dont think he would be doing him-self any favors by letting this bring down all of what he built as a DC at UM.
I do feel like we are missing some pieces in the talent department, but there is also a reason that everyone in the universe had us winning the coastal. Right now I am not sure that we can get to 7 wins.
