- the portal and NIL has hurt Georgia more than anyone. They just don’t have the ability to stockpile talent like they used to.

- In the age of the portal, evaluating teams based on returning production isn’t going to work. Clemson and Penn State were rated highly based solely on that. Penn State could still do something but they obviously could have upgraded in certain spots.

- A good GM is so important. There are so many players that can upgrade a roster that fly under the radar. I’ve never heard of most of the portal guys Miami, Texas Tech and Indiana brought in. Even Florida State was able to upgrade pretty significantly. When you have a few difference makers on both sides of the ball, the key is to eliminate any weaknesses. Bringing in Scott, Thomas and Toure has significantly improved the defense. They’re not stars but they’re not players you can pick on.

- By the end of the year Dante Moore and Beck will be the top 2 quarterbacks. Neither plays a really tough defense the rest of the season- unless you count Iowa and Indiana for Moore. In 9 weeks after playing 9 straight ACC teams where he’s going to have forever to throw and our WRs who can’t separate against elite DBs will suddenly be able to separate Beck will start getting favorable comparisons to Goff.

- Watching Penn State I thought they were built similarly to us. Fortunately we’re so much better at quarterback and we have this years Abdul Carter.

- It’s startling to see the disparity in quarterback play. It’s amazing that there are top tier programs that don’t have serviceable quarterbacks. How on earth do programs like Texas, Auburn, and LSU have quarterbacks who can’t throw accurately 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. Jackson Arnold gives me flashbacks to Kirby Freeman. There’s just no hope when you have that level of qb play.

- For all the flack he takes, not many coaches could have done the job he has building the program up like he has. He’s got Miami in a better position than all the other coaches from that cycle except Oregon. And Lanning inherited a team that had just beaten Ohio State in Columbus. Name me 3 coaches that could have built Miami up like this.

- After week 5, this is the first time in 23 years I can say I wouldn’t fear playing anyone in CFB. We have a weakness with explosive players on offense but so did Georgia and Alabama- early Saban years. Oregon and Ohio State aren’t anywhere close along the lines of scrimmage. Ohio State has the best back 7 I’ve seen in years though. But Sayin just gives me big Cade Klubnik vibes. Moore on the other hand is a difference maker.

Another observation- the year we recruited Francis we went after a number of other tackles- Freeling, Alinen, and Chase Bisonsis. They all suck. Goes to show that sometimes it’s better to be lucky.
It’s always nice to be lucky… Or they didn’t get developed by Mario and the tiny guru…pancake has taken a while to develop but he trusted the process and they got him there…

Ohio states defense looks insanely stout. At every level. They’re the top team in the country at this point no doubt. Oregon is the second best imo.

Offense are behind I think with all the portaling. They will catch up as defenses get worn down.

If we had a dominant 1on1 player on offense I’d say we are the second best team in the country. But I gotta see it week in week out

I still can't believe there were folks who actually think Drew Allar is a first round QB. Like holy ****, the NFL must be QB thirsty.

Didn’t make that mistake nor did I ever buy into the Klubnik or Manning hype. But I did think Nussmeier would be good. Lots of QBs getting exposed this season.

Never got the Allar or Lagway hype. Arch was more wait and see cause he hadn't really played against decent comp. I thought Klubnik was going to be a lol better than he was been though.

Another thing that surprised me is how often Alabama and Georgia blew coverages. I looked to see if Guidry was on their staffs.

I think he coaching losses at Georgia hurt them more than anything.

OC - Tood Monken to Mike Bobo
OL - Sam Pittman then Matt Luke to Stacey Searles
Wr - Cortez Hankerton then Bryan McClendon to James Coley
DC - Muschamp then Lanning to Schumann
DB- Muschamp and Fran Brown to TRob and Williams

Plus they lost RB Dell McGee (HC at Georgia St) and QB analyst/coach Buster Faulkner (OC at GT)

Penn St did fine in the portal. They have better WR’s than they have had in a long time. That’s what they were missing last year. I think this years team is probably better than last. The issue is Allar and James Franklin. You can’t have a coach who plays not to lose combined with a QB who can’t run and can’t consistently push it downfield.

Bisontis is one of the top iOL in the country, just some dumb plays yesterday. Everyone else sucks though lol.

That and Alabama rents space in their collective heads.

And just because Saban's in the position on National TV to make a fuss on parity related to NIL to improve his reputation, never underestimate Bama's expertise in bags and maintaining the talent stream with non-taxable cash.

Dabo's Virtue signalled about NIL, after a decade of it, but has been slow on the uptake of non-taxable bags in addition to NIL for in-kind service.

Bama doesn’t even have bigger bags than Auburn. Auburn is just messy. But they’re paying talented coaches plus three head coaches at the same time.

This is why I say Penn State is a case of being financially tethered to a QB who won’t win for you in big games. Pribula would’ve been the better QB for PSU but too much money has been invested in Allar.
