OK, some quick thoughts on Week 2 of college football, where it was Footballpalooza again the Coach JB's Touchdown Cigar Bar and Lounge...
- Arch Manning got going vs San Jose St. But again, it was San Jose St. Still looks like he's straining a bit on throws. Regardless, he probably could have used a game like this before going to the Horseshoe. Regardless, this was a step in the right direction for him
- Iowa St with a walk off over Iowa aka 'Air Ferentz'. This was a game that was literally played 10 yards at a time, every yard counted. Where have you gone Chuck Long? Mark Gronowski was 13 for 24 for 83 yards and 1 INT. In terms of yards thats actually double from the total the week prior.
- The most dramatic game of the day was Baylor's dramatic victory on the road vs SMU, who blew a two touchdown lead late. Sawyer Robertson willed the Bears back to victory
- LSU and especially Clemson scuffled this week at home against heavy 'dogs. I chalk this up as two teams with a bit of a letdown after their slobberknocker last week.
- I thought Kansas and Jalon Daniels had a dramatic game winning drive in them vs Mizzou and then Emanuel Henderson went all 'Edward Scissorhands'. Jayhawks punt, and then get gashed. Game over. Very good 'Border War', though.
- Does any team have any two victories as good as USF, right now? Blow out of Boise St at home, and then they go into 'the Swamp' and beat the Gators. Byrum Brown is who we thought he was, crown'em. There was nothing flukey about this win. They had the same amount of first downs (20) and they outgained UF (391 to 355)
As for Florida, now they go into a gauntlet of LSU, Miami and Texas. The heat is back on Billy Napier
- What was Arizona St doing on that last defensive drive? That's the type of blunder that loses games(which it did) and can cost people jobs.
- Has the Deshaun Foster experiment reached an end? Keep this in mind, they played a lot better and tougher in the second half of the season in '24. But you expect UCLA to beat UNLV. Where have you gone Terry Donahue?
- As for our Canes, workmanlike and methodical win over Bethune Cookman. Some young players got their first snaps and notched their first stats. Now onto a difficult USF team. I get the sense that the QB run game will be focused on by Cory Hetherman
- Some growing pains for Bryce Underwood in Norman. Not only did he face a solid Sooners defense, I just dont see all that much speed outside for the Wolverines. Thats probably going to be a focus of this upcoming recruiting class.
