Well, it finally happened. Took 9 weeks, but it finally happened. Miami's offense finally carried the defense to a win. Not to say that the defense was awful...it wasn't great, but it wasn't an abomination. But the offense finally broke out and put up some huge numbers, of course most notably 52 offensive points, tied for the most we've ever scored in an ACC game. As you'd expect, the offensive metrics rose a little, and the defensive metrics slid a little. Biggest jumps were in PPG (from 99th to 78th) and Passer Rating (from 56th to 31st -- pretty expected when your QB throws 6 TDs and 0 INTs). But Miami put up 8.16 YPP, the biggest number for an FBS game all year (Bethune was only 8.31), and that was also the best number in a P5 game since Duke in 2016. So you can say the offense came to play. Now, as was discussed many times on here, especially by @Liberty City El, the Louisville defense was/is absolutely catastrophic. So, one can say we did what we *should* have done. But still, considering we rarely do what we should do to these 2nd rate teams, I'll take it happily. The offense was explosive, efficient, and dropped a 50-burger in about 3 quarters. Not much to complain about this week. I'd also be remiss when discussing the offense if I failed to mention #15. Fellas.....I don't wanna say this too loud. But we got ourselves a QB. Since he relieved Kosi in the Pitt game, all he's done is complete 60% of his passes for 9.2 YPA, 9 TDs and 0 INTs. Oh, and 2 road wins and the best offensive performance we've seen in 4 years. Not too shabby. His individual numbers for the season are now:

67.0% completions (21st nationally)
8.8 YPA (14th nationally)
164.83 rating (9th nationally)

He's certainly had his bumps this year. He was absolutely not prepared for what he saw in Orlando against the sheep****ers. And neither was his offensive line. But the injury/benching may have been a blessing in disguise for him. It seems to be like the game has slowed down a lot. His pocket presence looks to be much improved. He's poised. He's willing to take off now. He's going through his reads. He's DEADLY accurate with the football. He is throwing the ball with confidence and precision down the field. It sure as **** helps when his offensive line gives him more than a nanosecond to throw the ball, so they deserve a lot of credit here too. And Enos had him a lot more in the gun and has scrapped a lot of the slow developing play-action plays we ran from under center, so that's helping a lot as well. But he is CLEARLY the best QB on this team, and well on his way to becoming an upper-echelon college QB. Enos may not be the best coordinator, but we know he can coach QBs, and Williams is only going to get better and better. If the OL continues to gel, the rest of this year and especially next year may be fun.

On defense, not much needs to be said. The defense gave up some big plays, but Louisville has been doing that to teams all year. They really do have an excellent offense and excellent coaching on that side. I LOVED the Satterfield hire when they made it, and he's done nothing but impress. Coming off the emotional, intense battle against FSU, I knew the defense wouldn't be able to fully match that intensity. And they didn't. But they made enough plays when they needed to, they took the ball away twice, 3 more sacks...overall a decent performance. But this is what good teams do. When one unit isn't playing their A+ game, the other unit steps up. Well, this was the first time we saw our A game from the offense. Enos should've been buying Baker drinks every week all year....well this is the first time that Baker needed to pick up the check. 2 more games left...let's go drop 50 on FIU and go kick the **** out Duke (we owe them from last year). 8-4 with a 5 game winning streak headed to a halfway decent bowl would be some nice momentum headed to next year.

Oh, and Lou Hedley continues to be my hero.

Much the same as last week, you could see the confidence in the team. If they can keep the improvement going, next year will be pretty exciting, especially with FSU at home.

Anyway after the season is over we can get stats taking first 6 and then last 6 and compare

penalties
negative plays
sacks

these 3 would be biggest difference

Penalties and sacks have absolutely been the biggest improvements.

Williams/Perry were sacked 25 times in the first 4 FBS games. Miami was dead last in the country by a MILE at that point. Giving up 6.25 per game. Since then, only 11 in the past 5 games. 2.2 per game. HUGE improvement.

There are two ways to analyze things, the smart way-stats which you have handled quite well, and a factor also needs to be the eye test- more emotional and definitely has a decency bias. IMO based on the eye test the last two teams we faced had some elite playmakers, Terry and Akers & Atwell and the RB#10. Aside from those guys L and FSU were really bad teams. That said progress from early season is undeniable. Way better OL play, fewer penalties, a better flow to the offense, better play on the back end of the defense probably sparked by the pass rush, and better special teams- punter elite, price big improvement, kJ returning punts well. I expect more of the same vs FIU and Duke. What will be fascinating for me is to see the bowl game. We should End up playing the best team we have seen since Uf. How we show that day will really tell us if the team is developing or more a component of the competition they are facing.

Great work as always man! TFL and sacks are impressive and will quite possibly be even better next year. OL has come a long way but is still a concern vs. top 10 type teams, but once again, we should be better here next year as well with all the meaningful reps these pups have gotten up there this season. We shall see.

Red Zone defense has really turned around as well. After that 6/6 debacle against VT, everyone went ballistic. And rightfully so. But we've seen the defense get back to their ways after that. Since VT, opponents are 4 for 15 scoring TDs in the red zone against us. That's 27%.

27% for the entire season would have you ranked #1 in the country.

Hedley is probably bagging the most on campus right now.
I bet the dudes rap sheet is off the charts.
