Goons, Goblins....you name it. we need to get em here.

LB:

We currently have ONE good LB on the team (Perryman). Sure, some of the young guys like Grace, and Figs may turn out good....but they haven't proved it yet.

conclusion: We need to hold onto Owens, Young, Terry and I think we need add one more juvenile that is bout that Thug Life. Names to watch for: Kenny Young, Dwight Williams.

DL:

This is the unit where championship teams are built. We currently have a nice young tandem at DE with AQM and McCord and will add two elite pass rushers in C.Thomas and Jackson. M.Smith and T.Harris also are quick off the edge but will probably need a year to develop physically (redshirt). DT's currently on the team are average at best sadly.

Conclusion: Let's hope Wyche is the real deal up front. Needless to say, we need to hold onto Valentine and need to find a replacement for Stuckey assuming he can't get in. We probably need 2 more DTs (3 if Stuckey is out). Names to watch out for: Anthony Moten, Cory Johnson, Claudeson Pelon, Terrell Clinkscales, Edmond Boateng, Kentavious Street.

DB:

It pains my heart to see the likes of 30 and 22 roaming our secondary smh. These guys are hardworkers and all, but this is The U. Look at the monsters that we used to trot out in our era of dominance...Reed, Taylor, Phillips, Rolle, Merriweather, etc. We need to do a better job stockpiling talent back there....it makes a huge difference. FSU and UF have stout defenses because of the talent on their DL and Secondary....a bunch of 4 and 5 stars. Look at their last few recruiting classes and how they addressed those units.....that's what we need to do. We are headed in the right direction with guys like Howard, Burns, Crawford, and a healthy Bush...but we need plenty more elite guys. I don't know much about Mayes and Turner but we need to hit on these guys. Bethel has the quicks and athletic ability to be a nice cover corner.

Conclusion: We need to get JC Jackson.

RB:

Our depth is bad. At Miami, we should never have to rely on a single back for our running success. Crawford is a nice reliever and did help us win against UNC...this is not something we should expect from him moving forward. We need elite guys. In fact, given our recruiting base, we should ONLY be bringing in elite guys every year. Thankfully, we have two committed, albeit on the small side. Need to get a power back.

Conclusion: Flip Phony, stay on Cook until the bitter end.

WR:

We have a nice core, but depth can be a little better. Not having Dorsett last night really limited our big play ability....it really helps having a deep threat that can burn his guy and get open downfield. Waters, Coley, Dorsett, and Scott, will give us a strong unit next year and we add a nice slot chain mover in Berrios. Langham could be a red zone weapon with his size too.

Conclusion: We can use another deep ball threat but I don't see anyone on the radar that fits that need. Does Lane or Dixon have that kind of speed? Names to watch out for: Johnnie Dixon, Ermon Lane, Eric Lauderdale.

OL:

This unit showed flashes of dominance early in last night's game. The one thing Corch Randy did well was recruit the OL (or maybe that credit should go to Stoutland). We are losing Linder, Wheeler, and Henderson and return, Flowers, Feliciano, McDermott, Bunche, Gall, Wells, Isidora, gadbois, Odogwu, and Knighton. Nice size, but alot of unproven guys in there. We reload with two savages in S.McDermott and T.Darling and two future starters in Gibbons and Linder.

Conclusion: I would like to see another road grader at OG....most of our OL seem to better suited for tackle.

QB: Future looks really good. Between Olsen and Kaaya....we are finally going to emerge with an elite QB after all these years. Thank God. If we had a good QB, we probably take FSU down to the wire last night...that's how much of a difference a good QB can make.

TE: I don't really see us targeting any TEs this cycle and I'm trying to figure out why. Walford is gone after next year, Cleveland after this season. Sandland hasn't shown anything. Is Jake O Donnell still on the roster? We have only one TE committed and its not clear if he will stick. Herndon certainly has the tools from what I've seen, but we need another guy here badly.

Coaching can only get you so far. If we take care of our business with this class, do the same in 2015.....we will be ready to compete for a championship. Can't afford to ***** this up.

I know great JUCO guys grow on trees, but for those that know these things, even you Paranos (i kid, I kid), anything out there in the LB, S, RB variety and is there any read on where Coker may end up, and when?

thanks in advance

need to see a finish like that or better.

From the UF site a mod said he feels the 2 guys that seem to be on the shakiest ground is JC Jackson and Da'Vante Phillips. They're still worried about Cook too

Lockley is said to be coming in as a TE next year. Griffen making it in will dramatically transform our wr corp.

Because of their size, I can see T. Harris and Mike Smith being moved to LB when they get here next year. That would help us with depth there

We need jc but they need to go hard after adoree jackson he has great speed and ball skills and is a 5 star cb and i think he is visiting in january. D'onofrio scheme is hurting us, you hear recruits wanting to play defense for auburn, bama, fsu, lsu,uf and you never hear top defense recruits wanting to play in our d.

Aside from DTs, Safety CJ Hampton needs to be #1 priority. We really really need some depth.Dwight Williams isn't good imo, USC wanted Oajuwon his teammate over him and so did a bunch of other schools including us.

Ill dive into the discussion...

Defense 2014 cycle

OLBS/DE Hybrid

Mike smith and Djack will be DE/OLBs hybrids. Despite mccrays 9 sacks this year, I'm not sold on the kid as a prospect. He had 12 sacks last year but he doesn't really have any traits that stand out. Average athleticism, ok measureables, below average burst, doesn't have stellar hips, does not chop up his feet, square up and wrap the ball carrier, etc.

However with Trent Harris, Djack, and mike smith we have already recruited over him imo.

LBs

Owens is an absolute beast. Along with Thomas and Valentine he has early round potential. The kid has everything you want out of an OLB. Length, coverage skills, Speed (high 4.5-mid 4.6), PURE strength, lays the wood, and a great motor.

Young was another great pickup by the staff. Will most likely be an ILB here but can play either or. Staff took a chance on him before he got his SAT score and it paid off. Should be here in January.

DBs

Plain and simple this was not a good cycle for DBs. As it stands today we will have 3 scholarship safeties next year, and it doesn't seem like we are in a good position with any safeties right now. I am assuming a corner (hope?) will slide over to safety. Even if Gunter went to safety for a year, that wouldn't fix our depth long term.

Add that to the fact we've passed on numerous safeties and corners down here in south Florida..has me a little cornered.

I'm not sold on our corners.

I am very happy we have burns and corn back there from the 2013 class. Mayes is a project. He moved over from safety but is not the most physical player. He has shown a little bit of flashes this season but has mainly been pedestrian. Deandre baker is a better corner than him. He does have great length and a high ceiling. But the word potential is meaningless unless it is put to use.

Hard to talk about Dennis turner since he hasn't played DB since middle school. He has shown to be a playmaker at WR. He is a good athlete, not a great one. Turner is also a project.

Nigel bethel is the most proven out of the group. He started playing corner his freshman year and never looked back. He's a four year starter for BTW and is a great competitor. He may never be a #1 corner, but is a kid that will be getting on the field by his 2nd and 3rd year.

Getting Jc Jackson would obviously change this.

DLINE

Chad Thomas. Top 5 DE in the nation and despite where he lives, the staff did a masterful job recruiting him after what happened with BTW last year.

Valentine was a team effort. He talked to almost every guy on our staff and we recruited the **** out of him. Valentine has great size, strength, and good length for a DT.

Courtel Jenkins is a project that will help us down the road. Jenkins has good use of his hands and a good motor. Hard to find DTs that work hard like Jenkins. He may not be as talented as Valentine but Jenkins is a guy that impressed at the miami camp and received an offer.

Our staff also snagged two JUCO DTs in Stuckey and wyche.

*With Moten about to decide soon, that A will move up to an A+ in due time.

We'd have to drop a couple to make that happen, which I'm fine with

Lane is not coming here. Sony is not coming here as far as I'm concerned as long as his brother enrolls at UGA.

It isn't scheme. Its talent and execution.

"[Our] philosophy on first and second down is to stop the run and play good zone pass defense. We will occasionally play man-to-man and blitz in this situation. On third down, we will primarily play man-to-man and mix-in some zone and blitzes. We will rush four or more players versus the pass about ninety-percent of the time.

"In all situations, we will defend the inside or middle of the field first – defend inside to outside. Against the run, we will not allow the ball to be run inside. We want to force the ball outside. Against the pass, we will not allow the ball to be thrown deep down the middle or inside. We want to force the ball to be thrown short and/or outside.

"... Finally, our job is to take the ball away from the opponents' offense and score or set up good field position for our offense. We must knock the ball loose, force mistakes, and cause turnovers. Turnovers and making big plays win games. We will be alert and aggressive and take advantage of every opportunity to come up with the ball ... . The trademark of our defense will be effort, toughness, and no mental mistakes regarding score or situation in any game."

as far as juco goes they just offered a 4 star lb d'vonta derricott. Is from va and is said to like miami. He is commited to kstate but is going to visit. He is 6'1 233 and his speed has been listed in 4.45-4.55, 247 has his 40 in the 4.3s range.

ryan mayes is a kid to me on tape who doesnt like contact. tackles like a sissy. hope they seen something i didnt. mccray doesnt really excite me.
Isn't owens going to be a safety?

him and juwon will really add to lb depth. with figs, kirby, and grace a year stronger. we can hopefully redshirt them.

McCray gets sacks but to me doesn't look like he physically can play at college at a high level. Mayes I always said is a cb because he doesn't like to hit but I think he can cover and be a prospect that can make an impact for us in the future

Uber worried about safety. Jenkins and Bush are the goods and I think Carter will be a stud in a year or two, but the depth there is atrocious. Passing on way to many local guys IMO.

Watching the game last night solidified my feelings that Thomas and Valentine are probably 2 of the 5 the most important recruits of the Al Golden era. You need hosses in the trenches to beat FSU and Bama types.

I agree but last night his scheme did not hurt us. It was the blitzing LB who did not know proper angles and a safety who gave up easy ints due to lack of ball skills
