We (almost) have the players

****, this thread really brought the who's who of haters out.

I pray we get to play this season. The constantly negative fans will either A. act like they’ve been on the bandwagon the whole time or B. make up excuses to downplay our success. I’m going to enjoy calling y’all out while we rack up W’s and look good doing it.

I can't blame some who question whether or not "this is going to be the year".
We've been here before.

The negative tone of this thread is about a 3 out of 10.
Go back to the last 2 Decembers and check out those threads.

Me? I remain positive.
I've converted my old Miami replica helmet to an M17 mask-looking thing and I'm ready to roll.
See you in the orange lot.

!!!!!!GO!!!!!!
!!!CANES!!!
!!!!![]_[]!!!!!!

We were 6-7 last year somehow
Plain and simple the Quarterback play last year, and the year before, was atrocious. We haven’t recruited poorly everywhere, but we have recruited and developed very poorly at qb. It’s shameful

We have had the players to win the ACCC Coastal for 15 plus years, we have won it as many times as Duke.

Coastal Titles (This will make you puke)
VT - 7
GT - 5
Pitt -1
UVA - 1
UNC -1
Duke - 1
Miami - 1

Pains me to say It ....but we have been what our record says we have been.

I've been a Cane far longer than since we joined the ACC, so I've know and have heard ALL the excuses...the excuses used to give me some comfort and eased my pain somewhat.....but not anymore. Not anymore.

Our problems are almost all self inflicted and almost everyone of them is totally within this program's control

We've had the talent but that's only the first step....these teams are only a shadow of our championship teams. We think just by showing up we win...Not anymore and far from it.....teams have found ways to neutralize our talent advantage and we continually have no answer.

We are exactly what our record says we are....talented, somewhat competitive definitely not the winners of old, and realistically until proven otherwise, a team that cannot afford to take ANY team on our schedule for granted.

That is our reality now.. Can we change it? DEFINITELY!!!

IF we wake up. We cannot afford to coast anymore. We need total and complete all effort by the players and coaches each and every day....without it we'll have the same thing we've been seeing recently with the same old excuses.

IF anyone had told me that this record would be our future result in a few years when we entered the ACC Coastal.... I would have bet the house against it....... Thank GAWD nobody offered me that bet.

I figure I'll outlive these bad times....as an Alum I can't quit anyway..so I'll always be a Cane for life

I've posted about this before. Randy Shannon's recruiting failures in 2010 and 2011 created a scenario where Al Golden had to recruit at an Alabama like level in 2012 just to keep things at an even keel. He failed to do so, and we went from a nearly 50% blue chip ratio in 2010 to around 20 four/five star players two years later. Since then it was a slow rebuilding process, and things did not begin to take off until 2018.

Outside of the absurd schemes that afflicted us in 2011 - 2015, the two things that we have lacked have been depth and quarterback play. Depth played a key part in collapses in 2009 (we had around 72 scholarship players) and 2016. Quarterback play was our downfall in 2018 and 2019 (with the OL being a key factor as well last year).

Quarterback will not be a problem this year. The O-line will be better. We should be looking at a 11-1 regular season.

We haven’t had a 50% blue chip ratio since Shannon was here. And that was due mostly to having a bunch of Coker leftovers combined with that one good recruiting class.

We've just had a bunch of head cases at QB. None of the QBs brought in by the previous staff had leadership qualities. It's amazing that when we look back the guys who were recruited by Golden in 2014 were head and shoulders above the guys recruited by Right...a guy who coached Heisman winners and NFL QBs. It's mind boggling.

ETA: I should give credit to N'Kosi for maturing and being a capable backup.

Agreed that it's stomach churning. Miami doesn't have a "talent issue." Miami has had more than enough talent to win the ACC coastal multiple times over the past 18 years. A talent issue could be discussed if were consistently losing to Clemson the ACC championship game but unable to get over the hump. The inability to win the ACC coastal even twice is 100% a coaching problem.

We had a chance to finally remedy the problem last year- Blake James thinks he got the right guy so no coaching search was needed. I'm extremely skeptical- you don't hire a coach from a failed regime and expect success. James obviously thinks Diaz is Miami's Dabo, but Clemson was in pretty good shape when Dabo took over, not barely over .500. Maybe I'm wrong- if Diaz can win 11 (I think 10 is underachieving for most top coaches with how easy the schedule is this year) I'll admit James made a decent decision. Otherwise, I look forward to the Mario Cristobal era :)

Prior to Dabo, Bowden never won more than 9 games. Swinney finished 6-7 his second full year and then won the conference the following year only to get embarrassed in the Orange Bowl. Then he brought in Brent Venables.

We shall see with Diaz but he is definitely on the clock.

Dallas, Garvin, Thomas, Bandy are the latest examples of Miami (Fla.)'s broken culture.

Doesn't matter how well we recruit when kids aren't developed, embrace losing, and then leave too early.

Optimists are 1 for 17 with this type of offseason chatter going back so maybe y’all can double on Ws in year 18.
