Was Mateer out when they played Ole Miss?

Mateer went 17/31 223 yards 1 TD.
They had a rb go for 109 yards on 9 carries with a long of 65.

Chambliss went 24/44 for 315 yards. I can live with that. If he has to throw the ball 35 to 40 times, that’s good for us. The more he passes the more his percentages drop.

But, he also had 53 yards on 12 carries, which is what we cannot let happen.

Lacy went for 78 yards on 27 carries with 2 TDs.

They won’t have enough posessions for him to throw that many passes.

Ole Miss jumped on them early and score 22 points in the first half, before adjustments were made. I’m sure Hetherman has studied this tape and the 1st UGA game.

I noticed that in most of their wins, they keep the ball for a long time.

Against UGA the first time they were limited to 351 yards and UGA 510, but UGA kept the ball 15 minutes longer. Lacy 12 carries 31 yards in first game. 2nd meeting 22 carries 98 yards 2 TD.

Keep Chambliss around 20 yards rushing. If he is deliberately gaining 50-60 yards we may have some issues.

Force them to pass the ball by containing Lacy. Focus on Lacy and Wright (TE #8) in the red zone as they are the primary scores. Score 28+. Win

Ole Miss ran 87 plays in that game. They had 13 possessions. If we let them run 87 plays, we're in trouble. So yes, I know why this thread was made, because everyone thinks OU had a good defense, and Ole Miss scored 34 points. Which is true. But Ole Miss gained 4.95 yards per play in that game, which was by far their season low, and a number that'd rank you about 115th in the country were you to average that for a season.

OU was down 5 in that game and returned a punt to about midfield with 7 minutes to go, and fumbled. Ole Miss recovered, took about 3 minutes, and kicked a field goal to make it an 8 point game. They stopped OU on downs on the Ole Miss 30 on the subsequent drive, and that was pretty much the game. They also forced a safety on OU.

But OU got off 60 plays that day, at an average of 5.98 yards per play. They only had 2 games the entire season where they beat that number. Those teams? Illinois State and Temple. Problem was, they let Ole Miss control the ball for 35 minutes because they were 4/14 on 3rd down and 1/3 on 4th down. Miami is one of the best TOP teams in America. We're not going to let them hold the ball for 35 minutes and run 87 plays on us.

If we hold them to 2.46 points per drive and 4.95 yards per play, which is what OU did, we're going to beat the **** out of them.

Interesting variable there....

Oklahoma is ranked close to last in the country in rushing. They have no ground game outside of an injured Mateer. Gave ole **** a lot of possessions. If we do the same (we won’t) it will be a long day at the office.
