Was exodus of Hurricanes’ underclassmen a gaffe?

College football insurance policies are big -- but complex -- business - ABC News
Mark Walton will be the next to jump ship and get drafted later than he thinks he should, and later than he would if he waited another year. Our two DT's should wait another year as well, but no one wants to wait for something another year away.

Best position to get drafted for your career is late 1st round and the worst is early 1st round or early second round because you are being drafted by a notoriously bad franchise

What if they come back & get seriously injured, then what?

They have insurance polices for that! Even if they get injured, and their value drops, they can still get an insurance payout on that.

Only if they're projected 1st or 2nd Rounders, and the only one that's projected in that range is McIntosh.

And even if McIntosh took out a policy & came back next year, it wouldn't pay Him the full value of a rookie contract if He got seriously injured at UM next year.

These kids don't owe us $h!t, stop being selfish.

Even the highe projected guys we need to keep. The great teams keep their guys and it wins them championships. Without chub and Michel UGA is not playing and both would have been high draft pics.

Well they paid a lot to get them and probable paid a bunch to keep them. That is the Bama/sec way.

Knowing Nick Chubb’s family that is about a dumb a post you could make.

Since I do not know them, I’m at worse uninformed. That said, in my experience there are reasons rich people are rich. Precluding take some extra cash is unsound. But, the Chubb family could easily be fine upstanding people, so I will bow to your personal knowledge of them.

You said, what happens if they got seriously injured, and that answered your question. News flash: NFL contracts are not guaranteed, so if he got seriously injured as a rookie, it still wouldn't pay him his full value for his rookie contract. He's projected to be 3rd or 4th pick. His insurance policy would be more than that if he gets seriously injured.

Stop being a **** to your own question.

I thought the Forston story would be be a cautionary tale, but you have to want to learn from it.

Exactly, projected, with the ability to go up or down, these projections aren't static. Either way, He gotta go for what He know.

You think they might go higher than the projections...I've mentioned this before...the brown acid is badddd!

With almost 100% certainty, unfortunately they will go lower than the projections, and most probably much lower! These kids are walking away from dump trucks full of cash pulling up to their door steps at next seasons end if they don't remain in school.

If there is the most minuscule silver lining in a very dark cloud...after this upcoming debacle UM coaches will point to McIntosh and Norton and ask underclassman who are thinking of coming out early...do you want to end up like those two guys?

Teenagers and young adults have a sense of invincibility and unfortunately don’t learn from the past. They need to have some people in their lives to tell them to sack up go back to school get their degrees and improve their draft stock at the same time.

News flash... players are going to do what's best for them and their families. And rightfully so. As a Canes fan, sure I hate to see them go, but I understand. UM needs to keep stacking chips and be more prepared when the next underclassmen decides to bolt. Next man up.

Can't worry about the ones who are leaving early.kid sees $$$ signs your not going to change their minds.just have to accept it wish them good luck and give them thanks for coming here move on to the next kid in line.if a kid has that mentality 3 and done why waste a redshirt.

McIntosh and Norton having another year with Coach Kul, the strength and conditioning program, playing against top-flight competition and the natural maturation process would most likely see both of them selected within the 2019 first or second round.

Norton is not a first or second round athlete. Only elite defensive tackles of that type get selected within the first two rounds, and first round is darn near impossible the way the league is going. They want upfield pass rushing tackles.

McIntosh has more of an opportunity. I won't totally discount it. If he bulks up without losing quickness he could become a poor man's Richard Seymour type.

Both of them were overrated here last January and the trend continues. More often than not if you're not good enough to be drafted early after three years there is a reason for it, and you're not good enough to be drafted early after four years. There's a reason the buzz always centers around the kids who leave early. They are the premier guys.

Only the stale conventional wisdom continues to shove kids way up the ladder if they stay.
