Despite being 10-0 prior to today's game, anyone with half a brain could see this team was far from perfect and had its flaws.
In what was a perfect shltstorm of a football game, all of the concerns fans had voiced throughout the year were on full display in what was one of the most painful losses I can remember:
Rosier's Inconsistency - He's a gamer, he's taken chances throughout the year that have worked in our favor, and he has also thrown some dimes, but his inconsistency is maddening. Those missed throws to receivers killed us today.
Offensive Line Play - It's going to take time. This team has played soft as shlt at times throughout the year and this shouldn't be remarkably surprising given that most of these kids were Fat Al's recruits. It is, however, remarkably concerning that they were dominated by Pitt, a complete dogshlt football program. Searles needs to do better.
Richt's Playcalling and Decision Making - When Richt was hired, he raved about how rejuvenated he was to call plays. I was optimistic in that we had hired a coach who was actually bringing a coaching dynamic to the table (as opposed to just a CEO). But 16 games into his tenure and, overall, his playcalling still leaves plenty to be desired. Oh, and I'm sure people will disagree, but GTFO with bringing in Evan Sherrifs. This guy was a last second addition to a recruiting class when Dwayne Lawson bailed to VT. He isn't a UM caliber quarterback.
Special Teams - What is going on with legacy recruits? Ray Lewis III should have never been offered, Irving Jr. has entitlement issues, and Feagles is just terrible. Expecting anything from the punt return and kickoff return units is beyond wishful thinking. This is completely unacceptable.
Refs - Not by any stretch am I blaming today's catastrophe on the officials, but the lack no calls on clear holding penalties is downright baffling.
All in all today was fcking terrible. But if you had told me we'd be 10-1 going to the ACC title game with a baseball player at quarterback and Mark Walton out with a season-ending injury, I'd have slapped the fck out of you for talking crazy. How this team responds in the ACCCG will be indicative of the character of the players and the staff. In past years, this team has failed to bounce back after a painful loss. You look at FSU in 2010 with Shannon, and similar games with Golden in 2013 and 2014. Those teams folded. A win next week signifies this is nothing more than a bump in the road.
