Some Notes/Thoughts/Questions heading into our Game against VTech

1. How are we looking on Health? We have:

OL - Justice O
C - J Clarke
TE - E Arroyo
WR - K Smith
RB - D Chaney
CB - T Stevenson
LT - Z Nelson
WR - J George

All these players either got Banged up against UNC or were banged up prior. Any time frame/game status for any of them?

* side question * anyone know how Virginia Tech is looking injury wise for this week?

Notes: Our defense in the last 2.5 Quarters really got it done for us. 2 TOs, several sacks and I believe only 6 points allowed to a VERY good offense and QB at UNC.

BUT…So so so many missed opportunities on offense…from the goal line at the 2, J Knighton fumble (I don’t think he can be a in the tackles RB anymore, he’s a receiving back and in space and that’s it.) our missed FG, our terrible last play call/time management in the end of the game. That’s MINIMUM 9-12 points we left on field that should’ve been GIMMES. Same happened at A&M, we need to fix this ASAP.

Penalties: iv honestly been pleasantly surprised on how we have done in the Penalties category so far this year. We have not been kicking ourselves in the *** in penalties like in years past.

Thoughts: I hate to say we are better than our record but the truth is we are. Looking at our losses I see them as follows:

A&M - Muffed punt, 2 missed FGs, very stagnant TVD - that’s a 13 point swing (which would equate to a W) we did NOT just simply get beat by A&M because they were the better team.

MTSU - turnovers & 3 blown coverages, let’s be real That whole day was an anomaly. Our 3 first half TOS, getting dropped at the goal line and THEN allowing an 98 yard TD? outside of 3 blown coverages MTSU didn’t even have 100 yards passing (non existent ground game as well) it was an embarrassing day but TOs and blown coverages were the name of the game that Saturday

UNC - Blown coverages, TOs & FGs. Notice a trend ? Same reasons we lost the last two weeks are why we lost this week. 2 missed FGs (6 points), 1 blown coverage (7 points) and 2 TOS (minimum 6 points) that’s a 19 point difference!!!

I say all that to say this. Outside of roughly 5 plays each game we showed we were the better team for that entire game. It’s VERY disappointing to have nothing to show for it. But I say all that to say we are CLOSE. If 3-5 plays a game are the difference between us being 2-3 and 5-0 Then that should tell you we are CLOSE.

We have an easy slate coming up:

@Vtech
Vs Duke
@ UVA
Vs FSU
@ Gtech

7-3 heading into Clemson with a lot of momentum (and hopefully having X, J George, Chaney and a healthy Zion AS WELL AS fixed issues when it comes to communication) gives me HOPE that we can make some noise on Death Valley with what Clemson has shown Thus far. Will we win 5 in a row? I don’t know. Will we beat Clemson? I don’t know. But what I do know is we are CLOSE…

Personally I don’t believe 9-3 is out of the realm of possibility. 9-3, 7-1 in conference play should be good enough for a ACC championship birth. If we walk into that game on a 7 game win streak idc if it’s Nc state, Syracuse, Wake or Clemson again I will feel good.

I hate to be a “sunshine pumper” but this is genuinely how I feel about it. We are 3-5 plays a game away from being 5-0. If we can take those “3-5” plays a game AWAY I feel confident in the rest of the season.

More than 1 blown coverage.
You are correct BUT that is what hurt us most. 3rd down and 8 on their own 24 and it’s a 76 yard TD. There may have been more but THIS one hurt the most. Not to mention it could’ve easily been prevent if the safety doesn’t bite on the wrong read.

It's going to be seven one-game seasons down the stretch, Buckle in.

There is no "corner-turning" game or anything that will set the tone for what comes next. Just like last year when a few wins created big egos needing tempering and Miami laid an egg at Florida State.

Play better. Beat Virginia Tech. Then we'll talk about Duke, and so on.

Thats not an easy slate and some legit matchup concerns with the teams including ...hate to say it...FSU who i believe sucks...but matches up well against us considering they will be able to run the ball and our offensive scheme plays into their defensive scheme.
There isnt any gimmes the rest of the way imo..will be dog fight games for the rest of the year.

I like your positivity and break down of each loss. This game probably determines the rest of our year. If we can't beat VT with what we have left in regards to players then we are probably in for an under .500 season.

Teams have not been running the ball down our throat. We've been mainly getting ate up through the air. We also match up well with what FSU does on offense.

Our style of play does lend itself to capitalize on "easy matchups." As many said here we will battle from here on out. It is what it is at this point.

This team as it currently plays is no business to be calling any game wins before they are played

We still dont tackle well in the secondary if their backs get pass the first level there is trouble. The 1 back that we played that was solid did what he wanted. We have been blowing coverages every game...fsu does a lot of motion bs eye candy stuff on offense...and have a running qb.

Clemson is going to gouge out our eyeballs and skull**** us, but finishing 8-4 would mean we turned this disaster aroiund somehow.

I'm sure we beat Duke, sure we lose to Clemson.
For the rest, U pick em..

Clark was riding a bike during UNC game. I am sure he tweaked his ankle again. His play has tailed off since he had that injury. He is not 100% and probably won't be for several weeks. Question is he a liability? If you cannot plant on your ankle it is hard to block someone. We should probably roll with Denis and see how it goes. Give Clark some time to heal.

Neither have been good but at least Denis has more time left in the program. Would love to see Seymore get some reps.

I’ll agree on tackling and blown coverages. I’m assuming you’re referring to the A&M running back. He had one long run on yes another miss tackle, but we bottled him up most the night also. FSU is not really a MSTU or UNC type passing offense. In addition, there won’t be any issues with our guys getting up for that game.
