There has been speculation that Drake Davis is transferring to IMG. Many may not be familiar with this name because Davis had decided to give up football for soccer last year. UM was one of the first schools to jump in Drake Davis's recruitment. Davis stands 6'4 215 and had a big year in track clocking in at 10.6. He recently visited Ole Miss and according to 247sports they lead. Not sure if UM will pick back up in his recruitment but I am curious to see if the mods have heard anything about Davis heading to IMG.

4-Star WR Drake Davis Giving Up Football to Focus on Soccer

Coveted wide receiver prospect Drake Davis has elected to invest his talents in another sport.

The 4-star 2016 recruit who holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Miami, Virginia Tech and Florida State is focused on furthering his soccer career and won't play football this fall, according to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports.

Davis, a Louisiana native who attends Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, is rated 10th nationally among 2016 receivers in 247Sports' composite rankings. Despite lofty expectations in football, he's opted to follow a different path that will certainly surprise several college coaches across the country.

“This is a decision he made in the spring, and he’s stuck with it,” Fork Union football coach Brian Hurlocker told Bartow.

You won't see Davis running routes this autumn, but he flashed evidence of his impressive skill set during a successful underclassman career.

Davis was a 2013 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 2A All-State honorable mention last season. He played for Dunham High School in Baton Rouge and also gained accolades following performances in camp settings.

It didn't take long for Davis to gain a reputation as one of the true athletic freaks in his class. He broke down those abilities during an August conversation with Mark Clements of NOLA.com: "I honestly don't think there's anyone like me. No one. I can do a whole bunch of things. There aren't many 6'5" receivers that run a 4.35. I'm very fast and agile. I can play any position, really. There's not many receivers that can do that."

Davis certainly has the talent to still pursue a career in college football, and with another year of high school ahead of him it would be foolish to rule out a possible return next fall. However, his opportunities won't exactly dwindle if he sticks with soccer.

He is also viewed as a Division I soccer recruit, per Bartow.

Though his attention is currently turned away from the gridiron, don't be shocked if Davis does indeed end up signing with a college football program in February 2016. You can be sure recruiting departments will continue to keep tabs on him, and new scholarship offers could arrive despite his absence from the field.

For now, the elite receiver has decided he doesn't need to use his hands in order to excel in athletics.

Football is still on the horizon for 2016 star receiver Drake Davis
By James Smith on October 21, 2014

Former Louisiana prep star Drake Davis made headlines a few weeks ago when Fork Union head coach Brian Hurlocker stated that he would be giving up football to play soccer. The story was sensationalized a bit as the initial report didn't have Davis' thoughts on the situation.

"I'm just taking a step back right now to focus on other things like my academics," Davis said. "I'm playing soccer and it helps keep me in shape and improves my footwork. I never wanted to give up football."

That news will have many college coaches eager as Davis already has offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida State and Miami, with schools such as LSU closely monitoring his development. Davis has plans to pick up his football career early next year.

"I'll be at the Army All-American combine in January and pick things back up from there," Davis said. "I will be fully focused on football once I get these other issues resolved. After that article came out, I let college coaches know that I still was planning on playing football."

Davis is from Baton Rouge, but transferred to Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia and could return to the Baton Rouge area later in his prep career.

Drake Davis out of Fork Union prep school arrived at the Ole Miss senior camp with a leader.

Drake Davis got a chance to arrive at the Ole Miss senior camp a day early to soak in the campus before the event started.

"I met up with coach (Grant) Heard Saturday to see what it is all about," Davis said. "He's the receiver coach there at Ole Miss. We've built a great relationship through the recruiting process. It's so nice there on the Ole Miss campus. The nicest I have seen so far."

What did the 6' 4", 210-pound know about Ole Miss going into the visit?

"I didn't know much. I got offered a couple months ago. I was going to school at Fork Union so I really couldn't come up here. I'm from Baton Rouge so I got a chance to come check out the campus and work under their coaches to see if I liked it. It's my number one school right now."

The Rebels committed the #1 quarterback in the country, Shea Patterson, who is also from the state of Louisiana. That's a feather in the Rebel's cap.

"Ole Miss is my number one school because I know I'm a receiver, and I can get the ball a lot there. One of my good friends, Shea Patterson, committed to Ole Miss. He's a quarterback. I know if I come to Ole Miss I'll get the ball a lot and get it from the best quarterback in the country."

Shea has been recruiting Davis for a while now.

"He says he loves it at Ole Miss. Shea said if I come to Ole Miss it will be like family so I can really just fit right in. It's a big draw for me having Shea there. I know if I can trust my quarterback I can do anything I want on the field. I've worked out with Shea and we have a good connection on the field, real good. It's just a big plus."

What else did Drake learn about Ole Miss during the visit?

"I got there Saturday, and I met a lot of people. Everyone is so nice there. It's like one big football and everyone loves football. That's what I like about it. The facilities are top notch as well. The coaches are awesome to work under. They worked us hard. It's just a great program and a great place to be."

Who are the other schools that are a major factor?

"FSU and Texas A&M. Most definitely those two. Texas and Southern Cal too. I'm going to Texas A&M next weekend. I'm going back to FSU. I might visit Auburn, but, just don't yet."

What stands out about FSU?

"I know they pass the ball as well. They produce really good receivers as well, and Jimbo Fisher is a nice guy. When I went there last year he made it seem like home. It's just a nice place to be."

Texas A&M?

"I know coach Moorehead. He's a good friend of mine, and he's my recruiter for (Texas) A&M. They said I could fit into their program really well and get the ball. They said I could come in and play right away. That's what I like about Texas A&M."

Southern Cal brings several positives as well.

"It's in a great location, first of all. They also pass the ball quite well. They are a really good school. I haven't visited yet so I'll have to go out there and check it out."

Drake is from Baton Rouge but has not received an offer from LSU. Does that bother him?

"No sir because I know they are really interested in me. They said they have to get me down there. I know they want me. They just haven't offered me. They are just waiting. It's not really bothering me. I know they are really interested in me. It's just a matter of me working out in front of their coaches."

A decision will not come until late in the recruiting process.

"I'll probably commit on signing day. I want to see what the game day atmosphere is like at each school. I didn't play football my junior season. I ran track. There are a lot of schools I want to see and get to know before I get to that point."

Is that legal? Giving up football in America to focus on soccer? And he's from Baton Rouge where I'm 99.999% certain they don't have soccer teams.

Obviously you have never sampled a Milf Soccer. Bro they have skills and are masters of the Kiegel (they need to be to make everything snap back after popping out a few rug rats!).
