UM has never intentionally TRIED to be a Football Power

The difference in the OP's general point is that UM became a power because Tad Foote stayed out of the way(for the most part) whereas Donna has her hands all over everything and micromanages. If Donna would have backed off and allowed the AD to have complete autonomy over the football program and allowed the AD to approve of coaches salaries that are in line with other top programs, then we would be all high fiving each other instead of droning on and on for a decade now.

Therein lies the difference.

Foote fought Sam every step of the way. Who do you think directed Jimmy to eat a ***** sandwich after the Fiesta Bowl camo incident? Foote would have killed the program if he could have. Foote didn't hire Howard. After Sam left, Foote hired the piece of ***** Dave Maggard. It's amazing what this athletic department has accomplished considering the obstacles, most of them self-inflicted.

Hopefully, we'll luck into a new head coach within 12 months.

Foote didn't like a lot of the stuff that was going on, but still allowed the AD to do their jobs. And like you said, Foote would like to have done away with the team altogether, but he didn't. As much as he hated some of the notoriety be he sure loved the money, the increase in enrollments, endowments, endorsements etc.

Donna on the hand, hated everything that UM football stood for, all the while pretending to be captain of the cheerleading team. Humans like her don't come any worse.

Most College Presidents and ADs would give their left nut and let you bang their wife for a legit opportunity to win a Football NC.

Well, UM has won 5 without really trying.

Obviously, UM should fire Golden. The right hire is Butch Davis because: (1) he is great coach (2) it would be a value hire (2.5 Million per year get's it done) and (3) Butch has unfinished business.....THAT NC.

You got it. I will go so far as to say they were unhappy with all that winning. Think about what they are --- left wing elitist who have issues with competition and red ink on test papers. They are the people who think participation awards the only fair thing. The good news is all we need is for them to make one mistake. Just hire one competent coach and we are right back on top. Butch would immediately equalize all the money and effort SEC and FSwho has throw at football the last 15 years. Sure, even he would lose some to pure cash on the kitchen table, but he would get most. After all THE U on ESPN this weekend, Butch clean up. He is the one person that could look at ANY kid and use the old Canes line: "Son you can either be a Cane or go someplace else get your rear kicked by whoever becomes a Cane." I never thought he was that great a coach until I saw life without him. We need Butch.

The program was built by the kids and that is why Donna hates it. Nobody, especially black kids from poor homes, is supposed to be able to do anything without institutions being responsible for it. The most amazing thing about our success was the total lack of institutional help and support.

Nick Saban would win nothing if Bama dealt with their football program like Miami always has. A few coaches and a bunch of kids did all this. Nobody can touch what they did. Even USC's greatness was from institutional support. THE U is unique in college football history. It stands only without anyone in second place. All we need is a coach. Howard said it and he proved it. It doesn't have to be the greatest coach, just a good hungry coach who likes our players the way they are and has the sack to control them.

If had an administration that would just stop ******** us, we'd be fine. Butch is a 7/10 game day coach, but he can do all of the other things right: spot talent, develop talent, and create a winning culture.

Instead, our culture is being dictated by a Hobbit and a ******* that can't drive results. How does a guy who never won a **** thing teach kids to do it the right way?

That line from the FIU brawl was instructive. Shalala says this is the not the old Miami and she is right. The problem is she doesn't understand what was great about the old miami because she ain't bout that life.

correction, the 2nd best team ever, jimmy's 1986 team was an NFL team in training, and look at the coaching staff too

Donna has been the Achille's heel of this program. I also blame her for Nevin Shapiro. I blame her for not using Athletic Donations towards the Athletic Dept. She's a weasel and the moment she leaves, we'll see our program come back to life...IF we hire a competent President who doesn't see their pockets first and our program's pockets last.

Yet, it happened anyway. Just think about it. Howard S. wanted to win a NC in 5 years, NOT UM. UM just wanted a football team that won more than they lost. We won a NC. Jimmy was brought in from OK State. What had he done? Nothing? However, Jimmy was hungry and had a chip (Big 8) on his shoulder. He was determined to get the respect that was given to Oklahoma and Nebraska. It worked out...We Won a NC. Dennis E. came from Wash State. What had he done? Nothing. He was Jankovich's boy. We won 2 NCs. Butch was brought in to simply sustain something that resembled a Football Program, due to the the LOSS OF 31 Scholarships. Butch exceeded expectations. Yet, UM failed to lock him down with a long term deal. The deal should have been sealed within a week after UM beat FSU in 2000, not waiting to begin discussions after the season. Plus, before the season ended, the NFL rumors for Butch had started.

Coker is hired. What had he done? Nothing. He proved he was a really good coordinator, but that is it. Yet, we won a NC, but Coker could not maintain the program.

Shannon is hired. What had he done? Nothing. He proved he was a Great Defensive Coordinator, but that is it. ****, I would take Shannon back in a Heart Beat to run our Defense.

Golden is hired. What had he done? Nothing. He proved he was an average at best defensive coordinator, but that is it. As a head coach at Temple, Golden Only Beat Teams That Had Losing Records. Proper Vetting by UM would have illustrated that fact.

No football program made more money than UM in the 80s and early 90s. Yet, UM rarely invested Money back into the program. Instead, UM focused on its academic infrastructure. Academics are important, but football was the cash cow and it was ignored. Why? UM never wanted to be a Football Power. IT JUST HAPPENED.

You are spitting fire, UM takes all of the football $$$ and spends it on other bull****, and now fans have really started to notice it after 10 years of futility, we look around and all we hear about is how "cheap" we are but there is definitely cash flowing down in Coral Gables

UM exists for one purpose and one purpose only: To make money....and not spend it on anything. They can pretend they want all these great academic programs, but that is BS. It's as much of a for profit institution as the University of Phoenix or its kind. That's all it is.
