Now, take the 1999 game at FSU. Miami played their hearts out and just ran out of gas. Are you telling me that CMU win was more impressive than the 99 loss to #1 FSU? It is not always simply about the Ws and Ls. It's about who you beat, or lost to. It's about how you played in the W or L. At no point is a close game against a far less talented team a good sign. Never. However, that L in Tallahassee had every FSU fan I talked to during and after the game shook.

So yeah, if we need to block a FG at the last second to beat UAB, don't expect a parade around here.

no. but it's not the first game of the season that really matters.

make a judgment the SECOND game of the season. If you see an overall jump in play from game 1 to game 2, then you can expect good things.

especially this season.

Our Canes just need to focus on beating the man in front of them and winning this play.

+1 or +100 will be a step away and up from last year's numerous disasters.

Realistically,

UAB isnt a scrub team. Our guys have less practice time than any other offseason, & breaking in a new offense/QB. I know everyone expects a blowout because we're "Miami", but a win is a win. UAB had a game to shake off the rust. This is our 1st game & I'm not expecting everything to go perfectly. I expect a win, but not a blowout. Many teams play sloppy week 1, we could blow a sloppy-ish game.

That's just a realistic POV. I know many will hate it but it's just what it is.

Y’all just trying to set Manny up for failure. We got shut out by a C-USA team in our last game but now we must beat a C-USA favorite by 35/50/75/100/125 etc or we’re going to suck.

I expect us to win handily but I can already see the Fire Diaz/Baker/Lashlee/James/all the positions coaches/the equipment manager/trainer etc if we don’t pitch a shutout with a minimum of 63 points.
 
Well...observation wise....the QB has a long windup, like he's a pitcher. DE's should be able to get the strip sacks flowing as long as they are beating the T. Looks like a spread system which is what the 4-2-5 should be stopping but who knows how much they actually showed. The return man/wr was probably their best weapon but the TE looked solid, wonder if they'll start someone bigger at striker to matchup with him or take the chances with a smaller guy like Couch.

Defensively they looked like they weren't overly good at slowing down Central Arkansas and if that kicker made those two kicks it's a one score game late. I'm hoping to see lot's of zone running and some option Thursday. I also half expect us to come out "slow" offensively with lots of crossers and short passes to get a legit game rhythm going.
