Love the won’t back down one. What a goofy fkn “tradition.” Not even sure when that crap started. And total awkwardness when they’re trying to sing it down 20 points in the fourth.

Tom Petty is a famous son of Gainesville and was big UF supporter.

They started it after he passed.

Oklahoma started same tradition this year with Toby Keith song.

Pretty cool when it works just like HRS' "Miami dance club vibe" (especially night games).

Started after Tom Petty died.

He grew up in Gainesville, could not wait to get the **** out, and infrequently went back, just to visit family, even though Benmont Tench and Ron Blair are from Gainesville and Mike Campbell is from Jacksonville.

These Gator ****heads like to pretend that Tom Petty cared about UiF or even liked UiF.

He liked his family and he liked Gainesville OK, but he didn't give a **** about UF.

“Everybody feels as if they have a sliver of a connection to him,” Petty’s daughter, Adria, told the Gainesville Sun in 2022. “You get to the point where it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not, as long as it’s cool.”

PS, in case anyone wants to pull the false hagiography that David Whitley wrote for the Gainesville Sun, that dip**** is one of the all-time worst sportswriters. Got fired from The Orlando Sentinel because people hated his writing, and he ended up in Hogtown, so he's doing everything he can to hang onto that job.

TOC, you know your stuff mi amigo.

I’m a massive TP & the HB’s fan dating back to the first album in 1976.

As you and many others here are well aware, North Florida also produced the Allman Brothers (Daytona Beach) and Lynyrd Skynyrd (Jax)

*** Gainesville and Tallahassee are actually pretty cool when school is out of session and the students have gone back home (jmo).

TP’s brother stayed in Florida and lives in Tally last I saw.

I understand. My family moved to Orlando when I was 4, I've been to Gainesville in busy times and slow times since I was a kid. I remember Skeeters and the Porpoise and Burrito Brothers.

Between year-round classes, the expansion of the Med School, and the overbuilding on Archer (now reaching Williston), it is getting much harder to give a **** about that town. I stayed in a motel downtown and walked to the Friday dinner and Friday party, and it is sad. The politicians need to rebuild downtown before they issue even one more occupancy permit for Archer Road.

End rant.

I loved Skeeters!! I was stoked when they opened a Skeeters on OBT in Orlando back in the day. Skeeters was the bomb! Sadly the restaurant didn’t last long in Orlando and the concept died a slow restaurant death like most breakfast concepts.

It didn't help that Skeeter committed tax fraud.

When Skeeter opened Risque Cafe, he had to put it in his wife's name.
