Majority of research and writings out there pertains to HC leaving before bowl games and the NCAA rules and other factors. The Diaz - Temple situation is somewhat unique in that he STAYED for a bowl game after signing (intentions) to be HC at Temple, and of course it was as an active DC, not HC.

When I read he was sighted Sunday at 2:30PM leaving his Hecht office (saying “no comment”) it never dawned on me he was on campus possibly regarding filling Richt’s spot. After all, he was still an active paid UM employee on Dec. 27 (and busy "for the "U" in the weeks leading up), so this seemed benign… post-game reports, office clean-up, and such being normal follow-up for the situation.

We all know now he was probably meeting with Blake and others as well. More interesting, perhaps, as several have attacked his selection as well as the $4M “buyout”, is that there may well be no $4M for this weird situation at all. Surely, the guys with law diplomas that tackle Arkansas State and Al Golden lawsuits are hard at work looking at this one – I wouldn’t be surprised if much less than $4M actually “turns over”. Experts on "letters of intent" and others please weigh in.

They could have negotiated the buyout and offered Temple a home and home series.

Technically, per NCAA, you can't really be a DC at one school at the same time as being a HC at another. No matter what the Temple contract says, his status on Sunday when announced was not your typical "active HC at Temple"... lots of legal squirm room perhaps.

The contract with Temple may have been signed, but it probably did not take into effect til a later date. It would make sense, if he was still coaching our bowl game. I wonder if the rush to get Manny named the coach was to avoid the Temple contract going into affect and maybe dodging a possible buyout. Do we have word that Miami had to pay Temple for Manny?

and you never know if it had a reduced or zero buyout for taking HC job at Miami....if his agent negotiated that clause as his "dream" position.
