Transfers Market in NCAA

I always looked at Marshall, West Virginia and the Florida minor league schools as transfer schools.

If that’s what we are to become (because we haven’t done A in recruiting) I don’t want.

However - with the new system. Does this actually have legs? I mean everyone that has decent talent is transferring if they don’t start.

The question I have is the team unity.

Needless to say I love what Diaz is doing. Can you assemble all star transfer teams and keep your prospects at bay at the same time though? Thoughts?

Strategic transfers that can play three years really help to add depth and competition to the roster. Gerald Willis, Bubba Bolden, and Miami Martell are perfect examples. Nobody is gifted a starting job, but they provide strong competition and at worst, quality depth. I view these cases really as just additional recruits.

What I would not want to see is a K State type situation where every year we bring in 8-10 transfers who can only play two years or less. That leads to perpetual, rapid roster turnover and little Team consistency.
 
This is the beginning of a new era of college football. There is now essentially a free agent market. IMO it all started with the Ed O'Bannon lawsuit against EA Sports.

Right now UM is able to take advantage of this new system but make no mistake, UM will be on the other side of this the year after our next ten win season. That's when we'll start losing talent. UM might fare better overall because we may benefit from having so much local talent that kids will often want to transfer back to their home state.

Where I see the biggest problem is that kids will submit their names into the portal as soon as they get close to graduating, not necessarily to transfer but to weigh their market options and perhaps force their existing coaching staff to utilize them more. THAT is when it will start to mess with team chemistry IMO.
 
Miami gets a few good players that are desperately needed as transfers and looking at this short term we all cheer what's
happening. but looking long term this is potentially a huge disaster for college football.

the whole "team" concept is going to be the biggest casualty with a rampant transfer situation. there
are many other reasons why this will not end well if it's allowed to get out of hand and i wish i was more
articulate to be able to adequately describe the total disaster this would likely be.
 
I think this portal **** helps UM alot, u sit in the country for 3 years learn about how coaches BS you and u want to leave, what other place like paradise will u want to go? Also said transfer knows the recruiting game and the dirty tactics become old to them they just want to play and enjoy a place thats nice and that can get them to the NFL...................................... Miami will feast off this

Since we have become trash, I’m all for change. I think we need to milk this hard. We will never be able to drop bags and buy families, but if we can jump players who got paid from Bama and the rest then we hurt thier ROI and drain their depth. Also, taking guys from OSU,Bama, Clemson, LSU and usc gives us men who have been developed already. Miami is the type of place that can handle this sort of influx. On the flip side we seem to lose players a lot anyway. THE U always has been a merciary sort of family anyway.
 
You'll see changes to the transfer portal when it starts affecting big time\name schools like bama,osu,pennst and Notre dame.

One selling point we have is well two.we might not have first founders like we use to but we still put a lot of players in the league via draft o r as free agents.plus you get a degree no one laughs at when you present it.if portal works out for us our recruiting should jump up a bunch.kids are smart they will go where they have the best chance to go to the nfl.

if we do good on Saturday s with the players off the portal and with the players we send to the nfl.we have a good chance of levelling the field against the money bag schools.portal will hurt those schools.
 
Think we are all tired of the off field stuff we need to see it on the field.wished season started tomorrow want to kick every team out there s a$$.

Unrestricted free agency would cause huge problems for the sport, but there is a big enough obstacle in front of a player, as it stands now, to act as a deterrent.... I think. I assume that Sitting out a year makes the transfer much less appealing.

I don’t think the “team” concept will be under siege. If for no other reason than the transferring student will primarily be one that is not a team leader... or even a big contributor. A team can handle the loss of a few role players without imploding.

Also, transfers have always been a thing. While the portal makes it easier for teams and players to find eachother, it’s always been there.

Let's see. As of now, if you look across the country, each team is probably averaging about 3-5 players entering the portal (from what I've seen, not scientific at all). Ignoring grad transfers since that's been around, and let's say it's 2-4. That's less than 5% of your locker room transferring out. That combined with natural turnover means it typically won't be noticeable.

Every year, some programs will lose big and others will win, but I don't see this being big enough to destroy the idea of a team in college football. The guys who leave were unhappy for some reason or another. A clean break or a fresh start can be good for the current program, the new program, and the player. Take Mahoney - he's gonna go to a G5 school and start somewhere rather than sitting on the bench here. UM gets back his scholly, and the other school gets a player they can have contribute immediately.

You'll see a couple of guys transferring from top schools to the next tier, from the next tier down, and so on. It really can equalize a lot.

Side notes: it'll be almost impossible to stack talent like the 01 Canes now. Like people have said, people usually transfer home so we can win big here, especially with the bag game removed. Player led locker rooms are going to be even more important, so kids at Miami considering leaving can look at someone who stuck it out and balled out when their time came.
 
What it can do too, is keep teams from progressing, by loosing players. FSU Is starting to show this. They do not have a really talented team (at the moment), and these kids do not want to lose, they want to win and show their abilities for a chance at the NFL. Players are going to abandon ship and keep teams down and fighting to maintain credibility. If you are not recruiting well and you are loosing players to the portal it will be an uphill battle. We are sooooo lucky with how everything has fallen into place. CMR retiring, CMD being hired, the O Staff being fired, new DC, new OC, etc. then the first major transfer that helped us is when Bubba came to us, things have started to cascade our way since. Know have to produce on the field.

Everyone thought the one and dones were bad for college basketball. They might be. But Calipari got in front of it and embraced it. Said it’s the future. Kinda hoping Manny is the football equivalent to that.
