Off-Topic Tourist recommendations

I'm open to most things at this stage - throw ideas in and I'll filter with my mate.

Probably draw the line at asian massage parlours.
I don't live there, I am just hoping to draw more interest based responses for you- Maybe you love wine or beer or hiking etc. But I am interested because I will be in Miami for Florida State so I am watching the responses in hopes of not making a duplicate thread.

Depends on what you like. My recommendations would be 4 hour drive segments. Charleston, Jacksonville, Tampa then Miami or Substitute Orlando for Tampa if you don't want to cross the state. IMO Daytona cool but only got a short Beachfront drive, nothing else really. St. Augustine if you want to spend a hour looking at an old fort. Titusville if you want to see some old rockets and space stuff. I like Palm Beach boat tour much better than anything between Jacksonville and Palm Beach.

Just throwing this out there; I'm potentially planning a US trip this year (COVID / work commitments willing).

Planning on landing in Charlotte, watching the Panthers and then ending up in Miami to watch the Canes. Probably in September, if the games line up - so will have approx. 10-14 days.

Are there any places between those two destinations (we'll be driving down the coast) that you think are MUST visits? e.g. Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Orlando etc? Any places to avoid?

Ta in advance.
Charleston and Savannah would be nice stops.

So this trip is taking shape. Thanks for all the advice - as you can see it's shaped the trip significantly.

Looks like we're roughly going to:

Blue Ridge Mountains (Ashville I think) -> Charlotte (Cards game on 2 Oct) -> Charleston -> Savannah -> St Augustine -> Titusville -> Miami (UNC game on 8 Oct)

So the question is - if you guys have got any cheap / good hotel suggestions in Miami I'd love to hear them (or ****, in any of those cities - this trip is going to be far more expensive than I first thought!). Preferably not in those warzone areas I hear about in the recruiting threads. ;)

Only advice I would give is to avoid staying in N Charleston or downtown Asheville.

If you’re going south on 26 leaving Asheville, and hear banjos playing, don’t stop.

It's the one part of the trip I'm not sure about - it's 260 miles out the way (there and back to Charlotte) and really I just want to go to Hickory Nut Falls to see the Last of the Mohicans filming locations (+ some of the Blue Ridge Mountains) and on the off chance I get to see this cute NC nurse I've known for years... but man there's not much to do out there!

Considering it's 1300 miles already, not including any detours, it might get dropped from the trip.

No reason to go to up that way or to Asheville unless you like one of the local breweries. The mountains are mountains. I don’t get the whole deal about them, but I’m not a mountain person unless I’m fishing or playing golf.

You’re better off staying in Charlotte and going bar hopping on Southend. They just put one of those indoor putt putt places there too. It’s actually pretty nice.

We have like 3 days in Charlotte before the game on the Sunday, honestly it doesn't look like THAT interesting a place - I'm not flying 4,000 miles to play putt putt! ;)

Yeah I worried that it'd just be the mountains and nothing else.

Yea 3 days is a different story. I was talking about killing one night lmao. Check out Carowinds and then the US Whitewater Center if it’s not too cold. Other than that idk what to tell you, unless you wanna go hit the casinos on the Cherokee reservation. You’ll get to see mountains and win money

While I'm asking for help - has anyone got any hotel recommendations in Miami?

Areas to look to stay in would be a start!

In Cherokee NC you have a decent casino. As a history buff, what is your area of specialty? Charleston and St Augustine are nice historical spots. What kind of food do you prefer? Do you like beer or herb? You should check out the Keys.

You have Miami, Coral Gables, and Ft Lauderdale. Miami Gardens is where Hard Rock is, I believe. I think traffic notwithstanding, there is about a 45 minute drive from say Coral Gables to Hard Rock. Again the locals can confirm!! Marriotts are nice.

In terms of going to the game at Hard Rock - I assume driving is the best option?

I can't see any train stations that are nearby. We're staying near South Beach - which seems like a pain to get to Hard Rock from there using public transport.
