TOO focused on stopping the run?

I’ll preface this by saying I’m just a dumb fan emotionally overreacting to a bad game, plus not watching any film to provide evidence, but there seems to be a lot of coach speak about stopping the run, something to the effect of you can’t be out on 3rd down if you didn’t help to stop the run on 1st and 2nd. Then Shaq mentions it in his post game, as if it were a defensive mantra. I know the run defense hasn’t been great in the past and was a key priority of the staff, but schematically is something going on for the pass rush to be so bad? I recall the announcer saying CMU had like 260-270 lb. OL, and our standard front didn’t seem to make a big impact.

Against an inexperienced Q that's a good plan, make him throw to beat you. But if that QB could throw, we lose this game; He missed guys running wide open all game, and he had a couple of drops. Our secondary won't get away with that against even an average Q in coming games.
