Secondary coach for San Diego St. #2 pass defense, #7 scoring defense, #7 rushing defense , #2 in interceptions, #5 in total defense.....I think he would be a fantastic hire

**** to the no...Tony White is not the DC...He is the secondary coach and recruiting coordinator.
His HC is doing the same thing Richt is doing, except for defense. -In case you don't know what I mean-
The HC of SDSU, Rocky Long, is also the DC. It's HIS 3-3-5 defense that you see, and he definitely calls the plays.

If we are getting a first time coordinator it better be from a major conference.

Small-time thinking. UM will never get back by scouring the bargain bins. Hiring the DB coach at SDSU as our DC is small-time.

Long is the only coach that I know of that runs that 3-3-5 at a successful level of performance.
He is the mastermind of that defense.
He was the UCLA DC through the 1997 season and the Bruins had a good, if not opportunistic,
defense.
He leaves and that UCLA D is garbage in 1998.

Exactly. People are really reaching for straws on here now. Why would we even consider that unless he was a proven DC???

Their head coach is their DC looks like, is this guy considered his #2 ? And I mean SDSU? People mad at first time guys with bigger credentials but this guy would be first time from SDSU.

Doesn't Todd Orlando run a 3-3-5 defense?

Houston employs a 3-3-5 defense that often flows into a typical 4-3 alignment. Orlando and the rest of the defensive staff have placed a major emphasis on creating turnovers so you'll see the secondary play very aggressively.

People are scarred from the Golden years. FSU hired a 1st time coordinator to run their defense and now has a crystal football in their trophy case as a result. We dont have the cache to go take someone else's coaches like we used to.

Good coach, but his strength of schedule was #106 . Stats are good, but schedule marginal. UT coach was in the SEC and strength was #35 .

And the UT coach was solidly mediocre in every possible category, despite having three seasons to show his stuff at an SEC program that has recruited very well. The obsession with mediocre coaches is very bizarre. He's not going to come here and suddenly pump out top five defenses every year.
