I'm not going to try to follow every thread this week so I will post here to make it easier on my brain.

Our message board is CSNbbs - Toledo for anyone trying to read our fan base. Some here have eluded to this game being our Super Bowl. That's true if the Super Bowl was played in a home stadium. Fresno State in 3 weeks is the more important game from a W/L standpoint because we need to beat G5ers over ranked teams that we are expected to lose to. I doubt that's how our players and most fans think though. This game is huge for recruiting and the national eye.

Glass Bowl Stadium:
It's a Historic venue with recent renovations as new as 2016 (East side concession area) and 2014 (endzone athletic complex). It combines old fortress like rock and new amenities like a state of the art 3 level press tower which was the 2nd largest at the time of creation in 1990. Sight lines are terrific and will enhance your gameday experience compared to a place like App State that has a track. 30k will sound like 40k with the fans right on top of you. I doubt that will matter for a Miami player who has seen some cool and loud venues, but it does sneak up on you for G5 level teams or P5 teams that didn't know what to expect. Our visiting locker rooms are far and away the worst in CFB. It's a huge advantage for Toledo, especially against teams who expect more. Gary Pinkel had Missouri get geared up in our ROTC building across the road because of how small and crammed that thing is. If Miami does use it though, it's pretty exciting for the visiting fans in that section. You will never feel closer than you do in section 26 or whatever that is. Toledo is a night game school, so this game being at noon relieves some of the tension which would ensue at a 7pm kick.

Fan expectations: Humbly, all of my friends (22 to 25 year old range) wanted Miami to stomp LSU and be ranked in the top 5. The way that game lined up though, probably gave us more confidence than anything else. If we do win, Toledo isn't a top 25 team because "oh Miami must not be that good." which sucks, but hey a P5 win would be a P5 win no matter what. Miami will be ranked 21st or so and that suffices as a big time team in the Glass Bowl. Miami IS the biggest name to ever come through, so this game is special even if we get spanked. Do we expect to win? More now than 2 weeks ago... I'm guessing we are between 14 and 17 point dogs. Teams in that range win all the time. IDK what FPI is at anymore but I'd say we win this game 1 or 2 times out of 10. Like a 15-20% chance? Most scenarios in my head say this one is competitive to the 4th quarter. If the QB situation for you guys gets figured out and we turn the ball over a lot or something, we could get drilled. A score of 52-10 on "pure talent" seems un reasonable to me. I feel we are a top 50 team in the country at worst and somewhere between 20th and 35th when we play well.

Offense: High powered and good. Play makers are all over the field. Even though we lost Woodside and Swanson, we can still ball. I firmly believe (like last season) we will be a top 3 offense you see this year. Team speed is not that of a normal MAC team.... We have a ton of Florida players, some that even chose us over the P5 in state schools. Saying that we are slower than Miami is probably true but so is Pitt, Duke, BC, etc. That doesn't always determine offensive production.

Defense: I think we are better than a year ago but maybe incrementally. We can't possibly be worse against the run. Pass defense is pretty good. Our DB's are the strength of the D for sure. The MAC is not an offensive jug this season so we may have good defensive stats at the end of the season stacked up against relative competition. As long as we aren't gouged for more than 7ypc on the ground, the D will get a couple of stops??? Maybe.

ST: Our kicker is amongst the best in the country. He hit 2? 40+ yarders against Miami last season. Our punter looks to have improved from last year. His rugby stile boot was crushing em against VMI. Feagles had some suspect punts against LSU, so we may have the advantage here. Cody Thompson also picked one off VMI's punters foot for a TD. I always think its odd that high level high school kickers aren't recruited better... Vest was first team all Georgia for 3 years. Why didn't GT or Georgia or any Florida team go after him?

My final prediction: I won't give one yet. I'm hopeful for a fun game day environment and for Toledo to turn some heads on the 15th. I think we are wearing alternate grey uniforms against you guys. For people who care that's what we wore against Akron at home in 2017.

bottom line Toledo can not beat Miami only chance for Toledo is for Miami to self destruct which is always possible as long as Malik is starting

That's not a terrible way to put it. Having QB issues and playing this game on the road just raises the chances of that happening. If this is an ugly turnover fest or a high scoring shootout, we don't care if the W comes with it. Toledo doesn't need to worry about "how" they win. If Miami is looking to break through for the playoff (LSU wins 9 games and Miami is ACC Champs at 12-1) they need to cover.

Couldn’t agree more about the punter tidbid .. ours just got severely out punted by two savanah st punters

Every year.. Toledo is going to get beat. The only concern is will #12 keep it close or will it be a nasty game by half time.

I’d say it’s probably worse for you guys that we lost to LSU. Not that it makes a difference win/loss wise but I think Miami will be looking to make more statements now and the lesser competition is the easiest way to do that. Example I’m assuming Richt woulda ran more clock if we went into this game 2-0 with Malik playing good. Now he’s going to try and get a big lead so the younger quarterbacks can get reps.

Good post, much better than the LSU fans' rants we saw a few weeks ago. We should roll, but with Malik & Co. you never really know.

Originally I shared the same thought process, but now I disagree.
1.) We aren't a take your anger out game. Savannah had the pleasure of being the next game.
2.) If Miami kills LSU, or just wins, Toledo is more hypnotized trying to make the biggest upset of 2018 happen not focused on their game.
3.) We saw what beats Miami. There has to be something said for players knowing a team is beatable. I'm sure our Dline thinks they can make plays. I'm sure our offense see's Miami's D isn't world beaters in September of 2018.

You guys have a new QB no? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that guy was one of, if not the best, QB Toledo's ever had.

#1 in production with the most weapons and solid runners behind him- Logan Woodside
#1 in national respect and NFL promise- Bruce Gradkowski
#1 ever, never lost a game, and is still the world's perfect QB (high school, college)- Chuck Ealey

I have the opposite opinion. I’d rather my guys think they need to play and execute perfectly. I deffinatly don’t want my players thinking that their assignments got easier because a quarterback and punter self imploded in a game that Miami probably wins more times then they lose if it’s played 10 times. I know stat sheets don’t win games but they can be telling about how teams physically matched up and if you go off of that we actually out performed LSU, it wasn’t the domination that LSU fans and the media like to paint it to be. It was more about our mistakes then the match up. And I don’t see Toledo being able to put us in the situations LSU did for us to make those mistakes.

This matchup is all risk no reward for Miami and all reward no risk for the mighty Rockets de Toledo.

Does the vaunted Rockets defense have enough thrust (see what I did there) to force Rosier to throw into tighter windows than Sav St; does he respond if so?

Likely on Rockets D and doubtful for Rosier (sadly). More high and wide, bounced, or Cirque de Soliel required catches from the WRs.

Will be telling if the meh (or worse) expected performance from Rosier is enough to get the QBs2-4 on the field.

Could set stage for rest of season (and building of new legacy) if QB2-4 comes off the bench to rally the Canes for a victory in the Glass Bowl.

You make good points. I believe seeing game tape of exactly how to execute and be successful at a task is worth more than attempting to be the first guy to do something that hasn't yet been done. Our DL is no longer attempting to beat a supposed top 10 OL in the country. They are seeing the OL has weaknesses and have game tape to evaluate exactly how to exploit those.

Agree with that. However LSU had a good game plan against us but like I said it was less about what LSU put on tape on how to stop us and more of our own mistakes missing wide open receiver and punts under 30 yards. I see this game being 40 to 17 type of game. I think you guys will have a good season but this early in the season I don’t think your offense will be clicking like it will be in October given the new guys at key positions.
