Larranaga likes to point to the timing of Shane Larkin's arrival on campus. He didn't make it to Coral Gables until August of his freshman season after transferring from DePaul.

Through Monday, Miami's spring signees included junior college F James Kelly and Belgian high schooler Manu LeComte. Kansas State transfer Angel Rodriguez, a point guard, signed a financial aid agreement. They join fall signees Deandre Burnett and Davon Reed, both guards.

Larranaga also hopes to get football signees Cornelius Elder and Derrick Griffin on the floor once the fall season ends.

Miami's class is slotted No. 20 by 247Sports.com, which averages all major recruiting rankings.

One of Miami's transfer targets visited NC State during the weekend. Alabama's Trevor Lacey reportedly spent time in Raleigh and is also considering North Carolina. He wouldn't be eligible to play next season, sitting out a year due to NCAA transfer restrictions.

MIAMI — Junior college transfer James Kelly signed a national letter of intent with the Miami Hurricanes, giving coach Jim Larranaga seven new players after winning the Atlantic Coast Conference title last season.

The 6-foot-8 Kelly averaged 18.3 points and 10.1 rebounds last season for Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio and led his team to the NJCAA Division II tournament semifinals.

The Hurricanes on Tuesday also announced the signing of Manu LeComte, a 5-9 point guard from Belgium. LeComte recently played in the U18 European Championship, where he led his team in scoring at 12.0 points per game.

Miami earlier added former Kansas State starting point guard Angel Rodriguez, who last season helped the Wildcats to the Big 12 Championship, a 27-8 record and an appearance in the NCAA tournament. In two seasons at Kansas State, Rodriguez averaged 9.8 points and 4.2 assists per game.

Jim Larranaga and the Atlantic Coast Conference champs added a seventh newcomer for the 2013-2014 season in junior college transfer James Kelly (Owens Community College/Toledo, Ohio).

The transfer power forward Kelly averaged 18.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game while leading Owens CC to the NJCAA Division II tournament semifinals. Kelly was ranked as the No. 22 overall junior college player according to JuCoRecruiting.com

“James Kelly will be a vital part of the team this season because he provides us a power forward/small forward who can contribute both inside and outside,” Larranaga said in a statement. “He’s 6-7, 245 pounds and he’s big enough to battle the bigger teams in the ACC, but also quick enough to guard smaller players on the perimeter.”

Excited to see what Coach L can do with this squad next year. If we get Griffin out there, and he is the truth, I think we have a chance to be a top 5 team in the ACC.
