Thoughts on Ball St game

Watched and did a thorough rewatch and that really was a complete domination top to bottom. It looked like it might be semi-competitive for a quarter between sh*tty field conditions, a few okay offensive plays for them and our inability to run the ball early. Then it was a complete mauling.

- People are down on Martinez but he had nowhere to run on his few carries. We were really only running the ball as a token because Ball St was keeping 3 LBs on the field and showing a heavy box no matter what our personnel was. Dawson quickly said okay f- it and turned Cam loose. It reminded me of playing EA NCAA online against some kid who just runs with the base defense every play because he doesn't know any better.

- Ball St was desperate to stop the run and kudos to them I guess because they did early. I don't care if it's Ball St or the '85 Bears, if the defense is bringing more bodies than you can block you're not going to be able to run much. That said would like to see some variety early with some guys pulling and going off tackle or some tosses or something.

- Our DL vs their OL was a comical mismatch and the results were what you expected. Baron was really juiced up.. too much so. He had a few dumb offsides penalties. But he's still unblockable.

- Our LBs are so much more athletic than Mario's first two years it's ridiculous. My boy Flagg caught too much sh*t around here but even he saw the writing on the wall

- Jacoby George blew up. I love how he sees the field and weaves through traffic. He should be returning punts honestly. Hopefully he was just dealing with cramps. We need him.

- Cam toys with teams like this so what else is there to say? It seems we're trying to get him the Heisman and why not? It's nothing but good press for the program and we need more blue chip QB recruits.

- I thought Sam Brown would dominate here and it isn't happening yet and I'm not sure it's even his fault. We're that deep. He's the 4th best WR right now. Horton needs to be featured more. Hate that long one got called back for him because it was a beauty.

- Our TEs are gonna do serious damage all year.

- I know it was Ball St but Ajay Allen needs to get the rock. He has home run ability none of the other backs have. Lyle hasn't done anything wrong but let's get Ajay some of those early carries.

- Lofton is going to catch a game-winner this year. Bank on it.

- Secondary is less talented overall but a lot more fundamentally sound than the last 2 years, and honestly I'll take that. But they haven't played anyone yet so I'm still reserving judgement. I love Jaden Harris's intensity and he's still just learning.

- DT is apparently not a weakness. Barrow was a monster under the radar pickup. The young guys all look really good

- Chris Johnson might not ever be a #1 back here but he's getting more involved and more confident every week and he's a weapon, probably almost exclusively in the passing game.

- RayRay came really close to breaking one and eventually we will. We're not really setting up the punt return for him and I'm not sure why.

- That Ball St secondary was epically bad but even so Emory obviously has a better handle on this offense, which makes sense having a whole extra year under Dawson. I know there's a redshirt plan there but I have to believe if God forbid Cam turned an ankle vs USF it would be Emory getting the nod.

- the roughing call on Wes was just.. special. Give that ref a trophy and tell him we love him. So heartwarming to see that guy accomplish what he has in his life.

- the other calls that looked bad at the time were actually okay.

- We can't keep losing starting OL. It won't matter against Ball St but it will from here on out. Cooper and Rivers need to be healthy. Although Bell hardly had to break a sweat yesterday.

- It was cute how Mario was making Ball St out to be Bama during the week but that's what you do to Jedi mind trick your team into staying focused for a cupcake and the media into thinking the win was super impressive no matter the opponent. I watched some of the "highlights" of them squeaking by Missouri St and that's why I told people to take the 34 points and run. Hope some of you did.

- USF is a whole different animal and I think we'll get a much better idea of what exactly we have here going forward. We have more talent overall but they're a really solid well-coached team with a lot of talent on defense. And that's not just coach-speak.

- Fun to see UF and FSU implode the same year we ascend. Timing couldn't be better.

- Let's get some orange green at Raymond James and remind our little cousins up there what's what

Loved how Emory looked. In total command, crisp, accurate, threw it downfield… starter next year barring another transfer

Good post. Riffing off of it, I'm not worried about our OL, agree our interior DL is better than expected as are our safeties (so far). I'm lso not worried about Brown, he'll settle in. And while I love Lofton, who seems like a taller, heavier and stronger X type, I doubt he will have the chance to catch a game winner this year, as we'll be blowing out the teams on our schedule. I agree we need to and will see more of Ray Ray, Chris Johnson and Ajay Allen. Can't wait for us to dominate against USF once more in a prime time game.

It's inevitable we'll have some nail biters.

J George kind of got rolled up and his ankle was bothering from then it wasnt cramps. He continued to play though. But saw when it initially happened and when he kind of ran off then it was like tweaking with him throuhout

Emory is getting better but he will need to stretch the field more if he wants to start because 4.4 yards per throw average will only get you in the game and not win the game very often

Where are you getting Emory with a 4.4 yds per throw? He had 2 beautiful bombs and actually averaged more per throw than Ward did against Ball St

Another year of physical development, talent-acquisition and roster-turnover will do some good, because Emory needs to be surrounded by talent in order to thrive.
