Thoughts and Questions

*First time posting* I'll share some thoughts (none that should be shocking) and then ask some questions:

1) Going into this season the teams biggest weakness was DL. We all knew this. It was a bit of a mirage early on when our rotations featuring AQM, Tyriq, Gilbert, etc. was having success pressuring the QB. I think this was a result of weaker competition (vs. improvement). Ultimately, we lack talent up front, especially at the tackle spot. None of the veteran guys were heralded recruits, and the ones with higher upside, have not panned out. The investigation def. impacted recruiting, but I do think we went after too many flyers (like Kamalu). This upcoming class is stacked with good DLs, but other than Valentine (assuming Stuckey doesn't qualify), our efforts should be focused on an elite DT. I don't think Moten, assuming he will play DT at the next level (and commits), has the size to come in and play right away.

2) Our offense is so vanilla right now, its sickening. I'm not sure how much is a result of Coley or Morris not being right, but when even the broadcasters identify that Malcolm isn't normally in the game for passing plays, you know you're in trouble. We obviously lack playmakers and dynamic athletes currently, but we need to play into some of our strengths, and we don't appear to be doing so often enough. This clearly isn't last years offense, especially with Duke and Dorsett out, so we need make adjustments accordingly.

3) In terms of talent, we are far from being able to compete with elite programs. We need serious help at DL, LB, DB (safety), RB, and WR. I don't think we've adequately done so in this recruiting class, so far.

4) I think the coaching turnover really hurt the offense this year. Not saying Jedd was the greatest, but the combination of him McDonald and Richardson, def. had an impact. I think Richardson was great at maximizing talent. One the other side of the ball, I know its easy to criticize Coach D, but its hard to argue what he accomplished at Temple. He isn't getting fired, and I don't think he'll get a HC offer, so he is here for as long as Golden is. If our defensive isn't elite in two years (assuming people don't leave) then we can put his head on a spike.

Questions:
1) Why don't we play out of a nickel package more often? Is there an unwritten rule that one of our OLB has to cover the slot WR?
2) Does anyone else think Stephen is a *****? That might sound a bit harsh. I like Stephen, I think he has all the measureables to be an elite QB, and I don't think it can be undervalued that he's played for three different coordinators. However, for the last three weeks, we've heard from Golden that he is fine, and this is the best he's looked blah blah...HE then comes out and throws with no mechanics and runs with a gimp.
3) Is our offensive play calling limited, because Morris is "hurt"?
4) Anyone else prefer to get beat with AQM and Tyriq playing three downs, on some drives, then watch our defense get no pressure?

We do not lack playmakers and dynamic athletes on offense. We lack an OC who knows how to use playmakers and dynamic athletes.

You can not sit here and tell me that Hurns, Coley, Crawford, Waters, Gus, etc. are not playmakers. We either do not use them properly, or do not use them enough.

We lack talent to compete with the elite programs? Dude we can't even beat a mediocre VT team and were on the ropes against a ****** Wake team. It's not even about competing with elite teams right now, **** I just want to beat the teams that we are supposed to beat.

What exactly did D'onofrio accomplish at Temple? Shutting down some garbage MAC teams? Wow.

1. We play nickel plenty. Does it really matter whether it's a corner or a LB playing the zone? We're going to get beat no matter who it is.
3. IF our playcalling is limited because he's hurt then why does Coley call so many bootlegs? I'm sure Morris' injury is the reason we run so many stretch plays too then.
4. Newsflash....AQM and Tyriq aren't that good yet. People keep asking for them to play more, but they have played. And they haven't done ****. Go back and watch this week and last week vs FSU when they got in the game. Zero pressure. Generally when you play DLineman fresh out of HS against grown men they don't have much success. Their early season success against weak opponents has fooled most of our fans. They haven't produced anything since we started playing legit opponents.

Great first post, kid. A few points before I answer the questions. Its amazing that you brought up Kamalu. We should have redshirted him. That was a waste not to. Buddy gave us nothing this year. He just wasnt ready to contribute. As far as DL, I think (well hope) that help is on the way. I think Al knows he needs to snag two more JUCO DL that are ready to play NOW. As far as the offense, its amazing how the second year in a row our WR dpth looks so pedestrian when at the beginning of the year it was a major strength! I think that along with SM is limitng Coley.

1) The Nickel package is not used enough I agree. No idea why. I guess they think that we have DJ Williams or Darrin Smith/Jessie Armstead at OLB because they **** sure seem to think that Cornelius and Perryman can cover WRs now. LOL. Smh.

2) I am sick of Morris period and I am ready for him to be gone. The sooner, the better. This wont be a "dont know what you got till its gone" scenario like when Brock Berlin left. I really think Ryan Williams will be able to do some things that SM cant. Even though his arm isnt as strong, he can run the offense ALOT better then SM. And he uses ALL of his weapons. Something SM knows nothing about.

3) No. Its SM.

4) Agreed. Time to throw those guys into the fire. **** ur burned AQMs shirt. Mide as well see what else he can do. McCord too. **** buddy is a Jr next year. It could technically be his last season! (doubt it but still. Never know.) We need to start getting something out of these guys. This is a weak part of the schedule. This is a chance to experiment a little.

Clearly you and I have a different definition of elite. Elite means they can change games in different ways (e.g. speed, hands, agility, power, etc.). Of the list you just shared, only Coley might have that potential.

I'm sorry, just cause you can run a 4.4 doesn't mean you are elite. ****, I ran a 4.4-4.5 in college and I don't think I could line up against Bama.

Thanks! I know Tyriq can't play every down. He's 230 and that is just too small to play the DE position at this level, but why can't one of them play opposite Shayon, who is doing decently.

Ultimately, I picture next years lineup to feature Chic at one of the tackle spots and AQM at the one of the DE spots. McCord will be officially at LB. You'll have one freshmen perform the role of AQM this year, and hopefully some help inside, because Pierre ain't cutting it.

Who the **** said anything about Elite? Since when do you need a bunch of All-Americans on offense to be able to produce?

You really think VT has better playmakers on offense than we do? GTFOH

Duke was elite and Coley ran him into the ground because he had zero clue how to use him other than stretch plays and running straight up the middle.
