I gotta thru some other post portal activity and rosters, and while I think we are clear top 5-6 there's no way I can say clear #1 after losing

Again I think we are positioned nicely, but clear cut #1? No…I actually make '26 UM a CLEAR underdog to '25 to UM. Better weapons, less trenches… Now it definitely helps to have a coach that really specializes and builds trenches well, but it still needs to be seen first with this group.
 
We just needed a QB run this O with smarts and ability to distribute to playmakers sprinkled with physical ability to run .

This QB even before spring will know there’s a souped up HP Corvette sitting there and he’s just been given the keys to drive it .

I’m so old I remember when people here told me Guidry was better than Dawson. Sheesh.

Anyway, just give me an above average OL. I’m not saying it won’t be, as a matter of fact I’d be very surprised if it’s not. I just need to see it. I don’t *know*. I know Mensah is awesome. I know, if we don’t have the best skill players in America, it’s at worst Top 3.

The only thing holding me back from essentially guaranteeing this will be a ~Top 5 offense in America is the OL. And granted, that’s a massive piece. But if there’s one spot that I’d be OK having question marks on with this staff, it’s the OL. If Alex can just do what he does, we are going to **** skulls all season.

And what an absolute gift with the schedule. We will be more than a 2 TD favorite in each of the first 4 games. Just build to Clemson in Week 5. We get a nice runway to do so. And I don’t think we need to score a million to beat them. Even if we’re still coming together, IMO 28 points wins that game with this defense and Clemson’s talent. Then we get a bye. By the time fsu/the 2nd half of the year comes, we’ll have had all of August, all of September, and half of October to gel.

No excuses here. Let’s go drop 24 in the first half in Palo Alto and never look back.

There are still many posters on here who say that was Ward offense he installed and called his own audibles.. Dawson only called the bad plays.. Im not joking

I'm worried about the center position. The guy they intend to start there hasn't stayed healthy, and has only started 2 games in 5 years. He's had some snap issues as well. I would've like another portal center brought in and Rodriguez starting at G and being the swing C.

This is a Mirabal OL all the way so I'm excited to see how they have developed over the years.

Preaching to the choir, sir. I've been pretty consistent for 7 months now that my biggest concern on the entire team is Ryan Rodriguez. Maybe concern isn't the right word, but he's the biggest "key", IMO.

The fact they didn't bring in a portal center does speak loudly, however. At least to me. They've done it 3 years in a row, it's not like they couldn't have done it again. But they didn't. Seems like they have confidence that the kids in the room can get the job done at the level they demand.

But I'm with you 100%. We need Ryan Rodriguez to be an above-average ACC center. I know I can count on Samson to be, at worst, pretty good. I know I can count on McCoy to be, at worst, pretty good. I'm fairly certain Jackson Cantwell is an alien. Even as a natural pessimist on true freshmen, I think that kid will be, at worst, serviceable by the middle of the season (and we're not losing any of the first 4 games, even if I was starting at LT). So, to me, it's Rodriguez and one more guard spot. If those 2 can just be average to above-average, we will smash on offense this year.

The literal only thing that can submarine this offense is the center and guard spot having below average players. I'm confident Alex and Mario won't allow that to happen.

They may line up Cantwell at all five OL positions simultaneously and send everyone else deep. Illegal formation and illegal man downfield penalties be dammed.

I’m not saying launch him into the sun by any means. But to play devil’s advocate, Dawson goes through stretches were he seems very grab bag and has no flow. Also would be a big help to incorporate some running back screens. It’s an entire layer opposing defenses can ignore. Never really understood why it’s not an option in our scheme. But again he’s been really good. He does a great job of scheming receivers open. No complaints there. Just think he’s a few intangibles away to be considered an elite coordinator. Obviously the running scheme has drawn complaints as well. Again, don’t know if he has entire control on that aspect

Agree i am confident. Plenty of easy games up front to let the OL find a rhythm and get coached up.

I want to trash ND at home.
